MLB Exec Discusses Possibility of Kyle Tucker, Dodgers Reaching Free-Agent Contract
Star outfielder Kyle Tucker remains the top player on the free-agent market, and it sounds like there's a chance he could land with MLB's top team.
MLB.com's Mark Feinsand spoke to an American League executive who suggested that Tucker could be pursued by the back-to-back World Series champion Los Angeles Dodgers if he opts for a short-term contract this offseason.
"I can't see the Dodgers signing him to a long-term deal, but if he is open to something shorter, that's the kind of deal [president of baseball operations] Andrew [Friedman] loves," the exec said. "It feels like they're just waiting out the market, because as good as Tucker is, it's not like they need him."
Tucker going to Los Angeles would be yet another example of the rich getting richer, as the Dodgers have built the latest superteam that is dominating the majors with a deep lineup led by the likes of Shohei Ohtani, Mookie Betts and Freddie Freeman.
Still, the slow-moving market appears to be opening the door for champs to swoop in and land the lefty slugger. Feinsand noted that in addition to the Dodgers, Tucker has been "connected" to the Toronto Blue Jays, New York Yankees, New York Mets, Arizona Diamondbacks and San Francisco Giants, though none of them have met his price as of yet.
Tucker's eventual deal could bring more clarity to the free-agent market, as other top players like veteran outfielder Cody Bellinger could be waiting to see the size of his contract before settling on their own deals.
