Anthony Davis Trade Rumors, Latest on Hawks' Zaccharie Risacher Ahead of Deadline

Andrew PetersJan 4, 2026

The Atlanta Hawks reportedly are willing to trade 2024 No. 1 overall pick Zaccharie Risacher in the right deal, but a move for Dallas Mavericks' Anthony Davis may not be the scenario the team is looking for.

Per NBA insider Marc Stein, "the Hawks do not believe an in-season swing for Davis meets those parameters when it comes to Risacher. Stein also noted that the Mavs are willing to move on from Davis, "but that hardly guarantees that a Davis deal will materialize before the Feb. 5 trade buzzer."

According to Stein, any trade involving Davis would likely come with his approval. He also noted that the Mavs might wait until this offseason, closer to the NBA draft.

"It all suggests that Davis wouldn't simply be dispatched somewhere without a level of collaboration with his camp … with more than one whisper relayed to us in recent days to suggest that (Rich) Paul would be high on Atlanta as a potential destination for his client if trade talks got serious," Stein wrote.

While the Hawks may not be willing to trade Risacher in a deal for Davis, that doesn't necessarily mean they've ruled out a trade for the Mavs big man. NBA insider Chris Haynes reported last week that the Hawks "remain very intrigued" in Davis, and Dallas would prefer to land expiring contracts, young players and picks rather than a star like Trae Young.

Risacher has had a somewhat disappointing start to his NBA career. After putting up 12.6 points per game as a rookie, he's averaging just 10.6 points, 3.1 rebounds and 1.4 assists per game to start the 2025-26 campaign. Still, Risacher is only 20 years old, which leaves plenty of room for development. It seems the Hawks are interested in seeing things through with their young player.

Atlanta is 17-20 this season and has looked to be far from a contender. While adding a player like Davis would almost certainly make the Hawks better, it's hard to imagine they'd be elevated so much so that they can compete for a championship, especially considering Davis' recent injury history.
