Anthony Davis Eyes Kyrie Irving's Return from Injury amid Mavs Trade Rumors on Video
Despite being rumored to be a top trade candidate, Dallas Mavericks star Anthony Davis is staying focused on seeing his current team improve.
While speaking to reporters following Saturday's 110-104 win over the Houston Rockets, Davis sounded optimistic that he'll still be with the Mavs when star point guard Kyrie Irving returns from his torn ACL later this season.
"Obviously, he's a hell of a player, a Hall of Famer. He changes the dynamic of our team. So, when he gets back, we will be an even better team," Davis told reporters.
Davis played a season-high 39 minutes in Saturday's victory and dropped 26 points, 12 rebounds and five blocks in a vintage performance.
When the Mavs acquired Davis last season as part of the shocking Luka Doncic trade, they expected him and Irving to be their leading duo for years to come. Unfortunately, they were on the floor together for just three quarters before Davis suffered an adductor injury, and Irving tore his ACL before he was able to return.
The outlook in Dallas has changed dramatically following the team's disappointing start. Saturday's win improved the Mavs' record to 13-23, ranking 11th in the Western Conference.
Dallas could choose to move on from Davis and build around Irving and 2025 No. 1 pick Cooper Flagg, but it sounds like the 10-time All-Star is hoping to stick around and see things through alongside them.
The Mavs will return to action in a road matchup against the Sacramento Kings (8-27) on Tuesday.
