Chris Paul Rumors on Lakers, Rockets, Potential Trade Landing Spots and More
Chris Paul is hoping to find another team to retire with after being sent home by the Los Angeles Clippers, but it appears his options may be slim.
NBA insider Jake Fischer reported Saturday that he has "been strongly advised not to expect the Lakers to emerge as a possible landing spot for Paul." According to Fischer, Los Angeles is "not considering" the 40-year-old Paul as the team targets younger players to help build toward the future.
The Houston Rockets need more guard depth after losing Fred VanVleet to a season-ending knee injury, but Fischer noted that they "aren't really weighing changes to their team at the moment and don't anticipate doing so until closer to the end of January thanks to the very limited breathing space they have (roughly $1.2 million) beneath the first apron."
Paul wasn't doing much for the Clippers at the time of his release. He was putting up just 2.9 points per game in 14.3 minutes per contest, though it's always valuable to have a veteran like him on a roster.
As for what Paul wants to do, he said he's "staying ready" but isn't sure what his next move will be.
"I'm just staying ready. I'm hooping right now," Paul told NBA insider Chris Haynes for NBA on Prime. "I don't [know] what's next. I'm still scarred by it all. Still processing everything. But I'm staying ready."
