Why Does Jaylen Brown Live Stream? 'The Media Is Very Lazy,' Says Celtics Star
Boston Celtics star guard Jaylen Brown is looking to make sure he controls his own narrative.
During an appearance on the White Noise Podcast, Brown was asked about his live-streaming habits, and he explained that he feels the media doesn't always get it right.
"The reason I started streaming — just because I feel like, um, I'm gonna just be candid. The media is… is very lazy," Brown said around the 51:39 mark (h/t HoopsHype). "I know controversy is what sells. So anytime they can put out something negative, they know they're gonna get more clicks, more engagement. That's what people, accounts, things like that — that's not actual journalism. You don't get to get the full story. You only get to get the negative aspect of it. That's what everybody gets to see first."
Brown went on to add that social media has created a new form of rapid media consumption that doesn't require people to explore the news beyond reading the headlines.
"And then most people, you know — because like social media, people's brains only have the attention span — they're not gonna look into what actually happened," he said. "And they're just gonna see the headline. And then that's what they're gonna go with."
Brown has helped lead the Celtics to a 17-11 record, averaging a team-high 29.3 points per game. Boston will be in action on Monday night against the Indiana Pacers (6-22).
