Joe Mazzulla Wants Pet Wolf for 'Extra' Home Security, Is Trying to Convince Wife
Boston Celtics head coach Joe Mazzulla is known for having a unique personality, so it's not a surprise to hear that he wants to add a wolf to his family.
During a recent appearance on 98.5 The Sports Hub's Zolak & Bertrand show (h/t Darren Hartwell of NBC Sports Boston), Mazzulla explained he is trying to convince his wife to let them get a pet wolf for "extra" security around the house.
"We obviously have a dog, but I'm trying to convince (my wife) to get a wolf that just kind of roams the area of our house, as kind of an extra layer of protection," said Mazzulla.
Anyone who has paid attention to a Mazzulla press conference since he took over as Celtics head coach prior to the 2022-23 season is probably not surprised by this development.
Mazzulla famously said prior to the start of last season there was no pressure on the Celtics to defend their NBA title because "we're all gonna be dead soon" anyway.
Security and protection are two things Mazzulla seems to have a deep obsession with. He has previously spoken about his Tony Soprano-like approach to restaurant seating by never having his back to the door and figuring out where the exits are when he walks into a building.
Getting a wolf seems a little extreme since the Mazzulla family already has a dog, but one can never be too careful.
Mazzulla would also have a problem housing a wolf in Boston since it's illegal to own a wolf or wolf-dog hybrid in the state of Massachusetts.
If Mazzulla is set on getting his new pet, New Hampshire borders Massachusetts and has no restrictions on wolf ownership. It just seems like a huge hassle to pack up and move, plus the travel back and forth to Boston, but this could be a good test of how devoted to security and protection he really is.
