Doug Gottlieb Says He'll Step Away From Radio Show to Focus on Green Bay HC Job

Joseph ZuckerDec 18, 2025

Green Bay men's basketball coach Doug Gottlieb announced he's taking a hiatus from his radio show to dedicate more time to his duties with the Phoenix.

"As of now, we're going to take a break from it," he told reporters following his team's 67-64 victory over UC Santa Barbara on Wednesday. "I've got to have a life. I've got to be there for these kids. I've got to really dig in because we're building something cool here."

Gottlieb added that his players deserve to have "a fully dedicated coach."

Gottlieb has had a nationally syndicated show, which is now broadcast on Fox Sports Radio, since 2006. Despite the daily demands of being a college basketball coach, The Doug Gottlieb Show continued even after he accepted the Green Bay job in May 2024.

That occasionally led to some bad optics.

This past February, Gottlieb traveled to New Orleans to cover Super Bowl LIX, which caused him to miss a day of practice, amid a 19-game losing streak for Green Bay.

"If people want to think I'm not doing my job because I'm in New Orleans doing a radio job, which had been preplanned, again, there is nothing I'm really going to be able to say," he told reporters at the time. "Other than, my players like playing for me and we are going to compete."

During Wednesday's press conference, Gottlieb also recounted how he had to fly separately to Indianapolis ahead of the 85-75 win over IU Indianapolis on Dec. 11. The timing of his radio show precluded him from traveling on the team bus.

The Phoenix finished 4-28 in Gottlieb's first season. They've shown some progress in 2025-26. Green Bay started 1-5 but has won five of its last seven games.
