Markets Heating Up for All-Star Infielders

MLB.com's Mark Feinsand reported that the markets are heating up for third baseman Alex Bregman and shortstop Bo Bichette.
"The markets for both Bregman and Bichette aren't as defined. The Cubs, Tigers and Red Sox are believed to be among the teams pursuing Bregman, while the Blue Jays, Braves and Red Sox have been connected to Bichette."
In his first season with Boston, Bregman hit .273 with 18 home runs and 62 RBI. His defense helped improve the Red Sox infield and led to the Boston's return to the postseason for the first time since 2021.
Bichette is one of the best hitters in the game and proved as much in 2025, hitting .311 with 18 home runs and 94 RBI, despite an injury-plagued season.
He's also reportedly "starting to tell teams he'd be willing to move to second base," per Feinsand.
Bregman is an exceptional defender, so it makes sense that the incumbent Red Sox, Cubs, and Tigers would be looking to sign him to improve key areas of their team. Boston also needs a quality and dependable bat in their lineup and Bichette could be that, just as he could be for the Braves and his Blue Jays.
Despite the interest in both, with the exception of Bregman possibly signing with the same Detroit team that expressed interest in him last year at this time, it seems rather unlikely that either switches caps.
Prediction: Bregman returns to Boston, Bichette re-signs with Toronto
Big Apple Battle for Cody Bellinger

Feinsand also provided an update on outfielder Cody Bellinger.
"Bellinger could wait until Tucker sets the market before making his decision. However, the inclusion of the two New York teams among those interested in Bellinger – the Yankees would love to bring him back after a successful first year in pinstripes – could push him to sign first."
In his first year in the Bronx, Bellinger hit .272 with 29 home runs and 98 RBI. His 160 hits were the most he has totaled since 2019 and his 5.1 WAR was his highest since that NL MVP season.
Bellinger instantly upgraded the Yankees' outfield defense and would be a return to the team would only serve to re-establish them as an AL East favorite.
For the Mets, the 30-year-old would provide a similar upgrade, especially with the departure of Brandon Nimmo to the Texas Rangers.
One would have to imagine the Yankees would hold the edge, if only because they gave the former World Series champion a chance to star for the team after a disappointing conclusion to his run in Chicago.
Still, the Mets are looking to make a splash after a disastrous start to the offseason and have the money to make a deal happen.
Prediction: Despite a strong effort by the Mets, the Yankees re-sign Bellinger
Who Will Pay King's Ransom?

The busy Feinsand also reported, "Michael King appears to be the most likely to sign next, with suitors including the Yankees, Red Sox, Orioles, Cubs and Mets. The belief is that King will sign a deal for four years, while the other top starters – namely Framber Valdez, Tatsuya Imai and Ranger Suárez – are looking for at least five years."
King previously suited up for the Yankees, mostly as a reliever, before moving to San Diego as a starter. The 2024 season saw him finish seventh place in the AL Cy Young race.
He played only 15 games for the Padres in 2025 amid injury, but still managed a 5-3 record, with 76 strikeouts and a 3.44 ERA.
A better pitcher than his earned run average from a season ago would suggest, he is among the most intriguing starter options available and would improve the starting rotations of any team with which he signs, especially the Orioles, Cubs, and Mets, who are arguably worse off at that particular area than the Yankees and Red Sox.
A reunion with the Yankees would give him his best chance to win now, but he could mean more, and compete in less hitter-friendly parks, in Queens and Baltimore.
Prediction: King signs with the Orioles, who have been among the most aggressive teams this offseason
