1 Fun Fact About Every MLB Team Thus Far 😀
Guerrero was born in Montreal, Quebec, where his father was a member of the Expos. Despite his Canadian citizenship, he is of Dominican descent since his parents are from there.
Guerrero also said in an interview with The Score in June that his father told him to represent the Dominican Republic since he never had the chance to play in a World Baseball Classic.
"I was born in Canada, but I grew up in the Dominican Republic," Guerrero said. "My dad never went to a World Baseball Classic. He told me as a kid that I should represent the Dominican if I ever got a chance to do it. I grew up with that. So, I think I will play with the Dominicans, but maybe if I'm not retired, I will play with Canada one day."
Guerrero was set to make his WBC debut in 2023, but suffered a knee injury during the Blue Jays' spring training that kept him out of the event. Now, he'll finally get the chance to represent the Dominican Republic, barring another injury.
Guerrero is coming off a season in which he collected a .292 average, 23 home runs, 84 RBI and an .848 OPS. In the postseason, he had a .397 average with eight home runs, 15 RBI and a 1.289 OPS. He earned ALCS MVP while leading the Blue Jays to the World Series.
