Red Sox Rumors on Alex Bregman, Bo Bichette, Willson Contreras, More amid MLB FA
The Boston Red Sox are in the mix on a host of different position players in the free agency and trade markets, including third baseman Alex Bregman, shortstop Bo Bichette and catcher Willson Contreras.
Chris Cotillo of Mass Live gave a thorough rundown on where the Red Sox are reportedly at right now.
"As of Thursday night, the Red Sox remained in pursuit of many of the top position players still on the market, casting a wide net in terms of type of transaction (both free agents and trades) and positional fit.

"Boston remains engaged with free agent Alex Bregman, a source said, and is involved in trade talks with Arizona on Ketel Marte as well as Houston on Isaac Paredes. The Red Sox are one of many teams interested in Cardinals second baseman Brendan Donovan, but St. Louis still might hold onto him.
"A new name has also surfaced for the Red Sox, who according to a source are pursuing Donovan's teammate, Willson Contreras, in trade talks. The three-time All-Star played first base (120 games) instead of catching last year and is thought to be available with two years, $41 million and a 2028 club option remaining on his deal. He has a full no-trade clause but might be willing to waive it for the right fit.
"The Red Sox also remain interested in high-priced free agent Bo Bichette and versatile infielder Jorge Polanco, sources said late Thursday. Japanese corner infielder Kazuma Okamoto is also a potential fit.
"Free agent Eugenio Suarez, who slugged 49 homers in 2025, is one of the top power bats still available but to this point, despite poking around on him, the Red Sox have not been aggressors in his market."
Bregman just played last season for the Red Sox after signing a three-year, $120 million deal with the team in February. However, that contract included opt-outs after each season, and Bregman opted for free agency this year.
Bregman, who is entering his age-32 season, is a three-time All-Star and two-time World Series winner. He also owns a Gold Glove and a Silver Slugger award.
He played his first nine seasons with the Houston Astros before signing with Boston. In 114 games, Bregman hit .273 (.821 OPS) with 18 home runs and 62 RBI.
A right quad injury unfortunately robbed Bregman of a month-and-a-half, but he was good to go for the back half of the season and helped guide Boston to 89 wins and a playoff appearance.
Bichette, a two-time All-Star entering his age-28 season, just enjoyed a great campaign for the American League pennant-winning Toronto Blue Jays. Over 131 games, Bichette hit .311 (.840 OPS) with 18 home runs and 94 RBI.
A left knee sprain cost him the last few weeks of the regular season and the first two rounds of the playoffs, but he returned for the World Series and hit .348 (.923 OPS) with a homer and six RBI.
It was a fantastic comeback effort after injuries plagued his 2024 campaign, holding him to 81 games and a .225 batting average (.598 OPS).
The 33-year-old Contreras has played 10 years with the Chicago Cubs (seven) and St. Louis Cardinals (three). He's a three-time All-Star who hit .257 (.791 OPS) last year with 20 home runs and 80 RBI. Last season marked the sixth time Contreras, one of the game's better hitting catchers, smacked 20 or more homers.
All three players would be great additions to a Red Sox team looking to make another leap after improving by eight wins last year.
