Michigan State is making sure men's basketball coach Tom Izzo remains one of the highest-paid coaches in college basketball.

That ranks Izzo as the highest-paid coach in the Big 10. It also puts him behind only Kansas' Bill Self, Arkansas' John Calipari and UConn's Dan Hurley as the best-paid coach in men's college basketball, per USA Today.
Izzo has coached at MSU since 1995. His five-year contract is perpetually set to renew automatically.
The Spartans said in a statement the contract amendment "recognizes Coach Izzo's Hall of Fame legacy and demonstrates a shared commitment to achieving continued success."
"Since the summer we've been discussing how we elevate the program to even greater heights in our new landscape," MSU director of athletics J Batt said ina. statement. "His new contract not only celebrates his legacy, it displays the department's commitment to doing all we can to support him and the program's championship dreams for years to come."
MSU is coming off a Big Ten regular-season title and a trip to the Elite Eight last season.
Multiple key players from that team, including Jeremy Fears Jr., Jaxon Kohler, Coen Carr and Carson Cooper, are now playing as starters on the 2025-26 roster.
Michigan State has plenty of reason to hope for further success in the future thanks to a 2026 recruitment class currently listed at No. 1 by 247Sports composite rankings.
That class proved that Izzo, 70, still has the ability to draw in some of the top recruits in the sport.
Izzo has led the Spartans to a 745-303 record in parts of 31 seasons with the team. He won a 2000 national title with MSU and has since set a Big Ten record with 27 straight trips to the NCAA Tournament.
MSU, which is off to an 8-1 start to the season will look to celebrate Izzo's new contract by making it as far as the Final Four in March.
