AJ Dybantsa's Dad Ace Reveals Message to Son After 28-Point Game in Win vs. Clemson

Andrew PetersDec 10, 2025

AJ Dybantsa has had a solid start to his collegiate career, but he looked like the No. 1 pick he has been made out to be in a win over Clemson on Tuesday.

After the breakout game from the BYU freshman, his father revealed the message he gave to his son before the game.

"I told AJ, 'You have to put two halves together. He can't do this in the Big 12,'" Dybantsa's father Ace told CBS Sports' Matt Norlander. "If he'd have played in the first half the way he did in the second, he would've had 40."

Dybantsa posted 28 points, nine rebounds and six assists to help lead the Cougars to a 22-point comeback win over Clemson. He scored or assisted on 34 of BYU's 40 second-half points and had more points and assists than Clemson's entire team in the final 20 minutes.

Dybantsa, who is widely projected to be the first player off the board in the 2026 NBA draft, is putting up 20.3 points, 6.6 rebounds and 3.3 assists this year, leading BYU to an 8-1 start.
