Mets, Orioles Updated 2026 World Series Odds After Pete Alonso's $155M Contract
Pete Alonso is no longer a member of the New York Mets, but they are still more likely to win the World Series than his new team.
At least in the eyes of Las Vegas.
ESPN's Jeff Passan reported Wednesday that Alonso agreed to a five-year, $155 million deal with the Baltimore Orioles. What's more, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reported the Mets didn't even make a formal offer to the slugger.

"It became clear to them the bidding was heading to places they weren't interested in going," DiComo wrote.
Yet New York may still be better positioned to compete in 2026 than Baltimore. After all, DraftKings Sportsbook lists the Mets at +1,600 (bet $100 to win $1,600) to win the World Series compared to +2,200 for the Orioles, as of Wednesday at 2 p.m. ET.
The Los Angeles Dodgers have the best odds at +370 and are followed by the New York Yankees at +750.
Baltimore has to compete in the American League East alongside the Yankees and a Toronto Blue Jays team that is coming off a World Series appearance. The Boston Red Sox and Tampa Bay Rays are also far from pushovers, which could partially explain why it is still looking up at the Mets and others when it comes to World Series odds.
Still, Alonso will provide a significant boost to the Orioles' offense.
The 31-year-old's resume includes a National League Rookie of the Year, five All-Star selections, a Silver Slugger and six seasons with more than 30 home runs. He led the league with 53 long balls in 2019 and launched 38 to go with his 126 RBI just last season.
He is the type of powerful right-handed bat that can anchor an entire lineup, and the Orioles surely envision him hitting plenty of home runs in 2026 and beyond given the contract they gave him.
As for the Mets, the 2026 season will be their first without Alonso since 2019. That will put even more pressure on Juan Soto and Francisco Lindor to lead the offense if they want to challenge the Phillies, Atlanta Braves and others in the National League East.
