Edwin Diaz's Top Landing Spots? MLB Insider Links Dodgers, More to Mets Free Agent
Veteran closer Edwin Diaz is reportedly drawing interest from contending teams in free agency.
According to Ben Nicholson-Smith of Sportsnet, the Los Angeles Dodgers, Toronto Blue Jays and New York Mets are included in "a group of teams at least monitoring" Diaz and the high-end relief market, which also includes San Diego Padres free agent Robert Suarez.
Jon Heyman of the New York Post also linked the Dodgers to Diaz, noting there are "at least" four teams in pursuit of his services.
Diaz is coming off a strong 2025 campaign in which he earned his third career All-Star selection and went 6-3 for the Mets with a 1.63 ERA, 28 saves and 98 strikeouts in 62 appearances. He opted out of his contract with two years and $38 million remaining on his deal.
The Dodgers defeated the Blue Jays in an epic seven-game series to win their second straight World Series title. Adding Diaz to the mix would make either team a favorite to make it to the Fall Classic once again in 2026.
The Mets already bolstered their bullpen this offseason by signing former Milwaukee Brewers and New York Yankees reliever Devin Williams to a three-year deal. ESPN's Jeff Passan reported that the signing of Williams "does not erase the possibility of a reunion with Diaz, and the Mets remain interested in bringing him back."
It sounds like Diaz will have a slew of options in front of him this winter, and his decision could shape the World Series picture next season.
