If history tells us anything, then Purdue was going to lose at some point. We're nearing the 50th anniversary of Indiana's perfect season in 1975-76.

Nobody would've predicted the Boilermakers' first blemish to come in such decisive fashion. A competitive contest at halftime slowly turned into a blowout as Iowa State outscored Purdue 46-27 in the second half.

"More than anything, I think they stole our spirit," Purdue coach Matt Painter told reporters. "This is a tough place to play and they came in here and took it to us."

The Cyclones made a firm statement inside Mackey Arena in West Lafayette, Indiana.

Junior forward Milan Momcilovic scored a game-high 20 points. Blake Buchanan, another junior forward, was one rebound short of a double-double with 12 points and nine boards. It didn't matter much that Joshua Jefferson, who's averaging 17.6 points per game, battled foul trouble and only played 22 minutes.

For those in Ames, seeing the Cyclones coming out victorious was a nice salve after football coach Matt Campbell left for the Penn State job.

Duke is the only team that may have had a bigger week than Iowa State.

The Blue Devils have now reeled off three straight wins over Top 25 opponents after beating No. 15 Florida 67-66 and then edging past No. 7 Michigan State 66-60.

Head coach Jon Scheyer emphasized the benefit from having tough tests outside of the conference early in a season.

"Well, I think there's something to be said with figuring out a way to win. You know, I think that really is a skill," he said. "And for our team, you know, we're not playing a schedule where you're going to just get separation and that's not the way it's going to be in March. ACC play. So, for us, learning, especially down the stretch.

"You know, we've done both. We've executed, which for a young team is important, and then we've had just the will just to get enough stops, and what an amazing experience for us these last three games. We're going to learn so much."

Freshman standout Cameron Boozer, meanwhile, is staking his claim to be the No. 1 pick in the 2026 NBA draft.

The 6'9" forward finished with 29 points, six rebounds, two assists and one steal against Florida. He started slowly against Michigan State, scoring only two points in the first half, but then found his footing. He wound up with 18 points, 15 rebounds, five assists, one block and two steals.

Bleacher Report's Jonathan Wasserman had Kansas' Darryn Peterson as the No. 1 player in his most recent mock draft, with Boozer in second. When Wasserman drops his next mock, a new candidate might be leading the way.
