Kiyan Anthony, Syracuse Upset No. 13 Tennessee in ACC/SEC Challenge, Stun CBB Fans

College basketball fans didn't see that one coming.

Syracuse knocked off No. 13 Tennessee 62-60 on Tuesday night at the ACC/SEC Challenge, led by Nate Kingz's 19 points, seven rebounds, a steal and a block.

Kiyan Anthony added seven points and two assists off the bench, while Jaylen Carey paced the Volunteers with 22 points.

It was just Tennessee's second loss on the season (7-2), and college basketball fans and pundits alike were fairly surprised by the outcome:

The win moved Syracuse to 5-3 on the year and ended a three-game losing streak after defeats against Houston, Kansas and Iowa State.

Syracuse, once a basketball powerhouse under Jim Boeheim, has fallen on hard times. The school hasn't reached the NCAA tournament in four straight seasons, and a fourth straight loss would have seriously called into question this team's ability to end that drought before the difficult ACC schedule even hit.

That made Tuesday's win a statement performance for the Orange.

Even more impressive was the fact that the Orange did it without leading scorer Donnie Freeman (17.8 PPG), who is dealing with a lower-body injury and has missed the past four games.

"After coming back from last week, couple of close losses, to really stick this out and beat a fine Tennessee team, I'm just so excited for our guys," head coach Adrian Autrey said after the victory. "... This is what this team is about, all 10 guys pulling for each other. I thought everybody that came into the game really contributed. Our bench, everyone was great."

The Orange now have a victory to build on, especially once Freeman returns, and will have winnable matchups against Saint Joseph's, Hofstra, Mercyhurst, Northeastern and Stonehill before the ACC schedule hits.
