Will Mets Sign Edwin Diaz After Devin Williams Contract? Latest Rumors on MLB FA
The New York Mets bolstered their bullpen on Monday when they signed Devin Williams, but they reportedly could still add to their pitching staff this offseason.
Per Anthony DiComo of MLB.com, New York is "still interested in re-signing" reliever Edwin Díaz. DiComo added that Williams is open to serving as a setup pitcher. Jon Morosi of MLB Network also reported the Mets' interest in re-signing Díaz.

Díaz is coming off an outstanding season in which he recorded a 1.63 ERA, 0.87 WHIP and 3.0 WAR in his sixth campaign with the Mets. He had a 6-3 record with 28 saves and 98 strikeouts on his way to his third All-Star appearance.
He told reporters last month that his chances of returning to New York were 50-50, adding that details of a new contract had not yet been discussed.
"Just get the best deal for my family...I love New York," Díaz said. "I would love to stay in New York, but if I have to go another place, I would be happy. I want to win a ring, so wherever I go, I want to win a ring and enjoy the time."
In November, Díaz opted out of the final two years and $37 million remaining on his five-year, $102 million contract. He later declined a one-year, $22.025 million qualifying offer, though DiComo noted that the Mets made that offer knowing he'd reject it and will now receive a compensatory 2026 draft pick if he signs with another team.
"I like the organization," Díaz said. "You know, if they came with the best deal for me, I'd enjoy to stay with them, but at the end of the day, I don't know what they're thinking."
Díaz reportedly is seeking a contract similar to his last one with the Mets, around the $100 million mark. The Athletic's Ken Rosenthal noted in November that Díaz's agents met with the Toronto Blue Jays at the general manager's meetings.
