B/R Experts Week 13 NFL Power Rankings
The only thing that's certain in the NFL is that nothing is certain—and several contenders found that out the hard way in Week 12.
The week kicked off with a win by the Houston Texans over the Buffalo Bills in a game where Josh Allen was sacked eight times. The Indianapolis Colts had a double-digit lead in the fourth quarter but couldn't hold it. The Philadelphia Eagles raced out to a 21-0 lead over the rival Cowboys in Dallas—only to allow 24 unanswered points. The Detroit Lions were pushed to overtime by a two-win New York Giants squad. After a fifth straight win, the Baltimore Ravens have caught the Pittsburgh Steelers in the AFC North.
All in all, it was a typical week in the NFL, which means nothing was typical.
The wacky week that was shook the league pecking order to its core, and Bleacher Report NFL analysts Gary Davenport, Kris Knox, Maurice Moton and Brent Sobleski are here to sort through the week's happenings and rank all 32 teams from worst to first.
The bookends remain the same. Between them? Chaos.
32. Tennessee Titans (1-10)
1 of 32.jpg)
Last Week: 32
Week 12 Result: Lost vs. Seattle 30-24
Another Titans loss can be viewed as a positive. Seriously.
A 1-10 record isn't easy to stomach, but Tennessee was the league's worst team a year ago and didn't have the roster to immediately compete this fall.
However, the acquisition of quarterback Cam Ward with this year's No. 1 overall pick was all that mattered. His development needed to define the current campaign. Despite the losses, he has slowly improved. He no longer looks out of place as a rookie. It's now all about building around him.
Once again, the Titans are in position to own the No. 1 overall pick. They can use that selection as leverage to obtain a windfall of assets in return to flesh out their roster and finally show considerable improvement next season (with the right head coaching hire). -- Sobleski
31. New York Jets (2-9)
2 of 32.jpg)
Last Week: 30
Week 12 Result: Lost at Baltimore 23-10
The Jets' hiring of Aaron Glenn as head coach is working out about as well as the decision to make Justin Fields the starting quarterback. Fields already got the hook. Glenn's is coming soon enough.
Gang Green traded their two best defensive players at the deadline, and probably should have traded their best healthy offensive player because running back Breece Hall won't be on this team in 2026.
It is possible the Jets will have the No. 1 overall pick in next year's draft. The team has three extra firsts over the next two years with which to accelerate the rebound that's coming.
However, the Jets have been rebuilding for the last 15 years, and come September, the team that hits the field is atrocious. Why would that change moving forward? -- Davenport
30. Las Vegas Raiders (2-9)
3 of 32.jpg)
Last Week: 28
Week 12 Result: Lost 24-10 vs. Cleveland
At this point, spectators should be worried about quarterback Geno Smith every time he drops back in the pocket. He's taken 20 sacks over the last three weeks, behind an unsettled offensive line with backups at left tackle and on the interior.
Without Kolton Miller and Jackson Powers-Johnson, the Raiders' offensive line isn't going to make any strides, which leaves Smith and running back Ashton Jeanty vulnerable to aggressive defensive fronts.
Looking at the attack-style defenses this team plays post-Thanksgiving, it may not win another game this season. -- Moton
29. New Orleans Saints (2-9)
4 of 32.jpg)
Last Week: 29
Week 12 Result: Lost 24-10 vs. Atlanta
Over the past several weeks, Alvin Kamara battled an ankle injury. In the New Orleans Saints' Week 12 loss to Atlanta, he went down with a knee problem.
Though the Saints offense would take a hit without Kamara, the coaching staff should be focused on developing young talent in a losing season.
At times, New Orleans has played competitively under new head coach Kellen Moore, but this team is headed toward a top-three draft pick in 2025. -- Moton
28. New York Giants (2-10)
5 of 32.jpg)
Last Week: 27
Week 12 Result: Lost vs. Detroit 34-27 (OT)
The Giants had every chance to emerge victorious against the Lions. After all, New York held a 10-point lead early in the fourth quarter.
From that point, the following things occurred: Jameis Winston threw an interception, the Giants failed to score from the Lions' 2-yard line, and New York's offense couldn't convert on fourth down in overtime.
At this juncture, the Giants are 2-10 and first-round rookie quarterback Jaxson Dart remains in the NFL's concussion protocol. No reason exists for him to return this season and risk anything.
At the very least, Jameis Winston will be an entertaining alternative through the final five games. -- Sobleski
27. Cleveland Browns (3-8)
6 of 32.jpg)
Last Week: 31
Week 11 Result: Won vs. Las Vegas 24-10
We're not going to overreact to the Cleveland Browns going 1-0 with Shedeur Sanders as their starter, though plenty of folks will probably do just that in the coming days.
Sanders looked mostly comfortable in his first start and had a couple of truly impressive throws. Though it all came against a suspect Las Vegas Raiders defense, he did enough to make going back to Dillon Gabriel, when healthy, anything but an easy choice.
The rest of Cleveland's season is all about finding if there's a viable starting QB on the roster—and whether Myles Garrett can pick up the five sacks needed to break the single-season record. -- Knox
26. Washington Commanders (3-8)
7 of 32.jpg)
Last Week: 24
Week 12 Result: Bye Week
The Commanders entered their bye week on a six-game losing streak. Washington can now enjoy facing one of the NFL's best defenses in the Denver Broncos upon its return to action. Maybe Jayden Daniels will be back in the lineup. He continues to recover from an elbow injury, though.
At 3-8, the Commanders staff shouldn't rush the second-year quarterback into the lineup in hopes of salvaging the season. Daniels' long-term health is far more important than trying to squeeze out a final wild-card playoff spot. That scenario is likely only possible if the team wins its final six games, which is unrealistic. -- Sobleski
25. Arizona Cardinals (3-8)
8 of 32.jpg)
Last Week: 25
Week 11 Result: Lost vs. Jacksonville 27-24 (OT)
Arizona Cardinals fans might lament the fact that Jacoby Brissett isn't about a half-decade younger. The journeyman backup has been one of the few bright spots of the team's recent slide.
The Cardinals, once 2-0, sit at 3-7 and aren't getting back into the NFC wild-card mix. There's a non-zero chance they'll move off of Kyler Murray in the offseason. They could make other changes as well.
While Brissett isn't exactly auditioning to be Arizona's QB of the future, he can be a steady bridge starter next season—if 2026 proves to be a rest year. -- Knox
24. Cincinnati Bengals (3-8)
9 of 32.jpg)
Last Week: 26
Week 11 Result: Lost vs. New England 26-20
The Cincinnati Bengals are planning to have Joe Burrow back for their Thanksgiving game against the rival Baltimore Ravens.
Even though they have a 3-8 record, it's not difficult to see why the Bengals are willing to bring the signal-caller back more quickly than most expected.
Cincinnati's defense isn't good, and the Bengals have struggled to close out games. However, they've regularly hung with playoff-caliber teams with Joe Flacco behind center in Burrow's stead.
The Bengals aren't a Super-Bowl caliber team. If Burrow is immediately in pre-injury form, though, Cincinnati can dream about a 9-8 record and a slim postseason shot. -- Knox
23. Miami Dolphins (4-7)
10 of 32.jpg)
Last Week: 23
Week 12 Result: Bye Week
The Miami Dolphins won't be going to the playoffs this year—that ship sailed a while ago. But the last six weeks of the 2025 season are still vitally important, because they have to decide who they are.
Not that long ago, head coach Mike McDaniel appeared headed for the same fate as general manager Chris Grier. But back-to-back pre-bye wins gave Miami some momentum, and a strong finish might just save his job.
Such a strong finish could also offer some optimism about the future of quarterback Tua Tagovailoa, who the Dolphins are essentially stuck with through at least 2026.
If Miami can string some more wins together, the offseason may be less complete teardown than adding pieces around a perceived foundation. But if the Dolphins finish the season like they started it, this team is headed for a studs-up rebuild. -- Davenport
22. Minnesota Vikings (4-7)
11 of 32.jpg)
Last Week: 20
Week 12 Result: Lost at Green Bay 23-6
Sam Darnold of the Seattle Seahawks and Daniel Jones of the Indianapolis Colts are both leading their respective teams to the playoffs. Both were also on the roster in 2024 of a Vikings team that J.J. McCarthy has led right into the NFC North basement.
The decision to make McCarthy the future of the franchise under center looks to have been a debacle of epic proportions. His bad throw percentage and on-target percentage are both the worst in the NFL. In Sunday's loss to the Packers, he threw two interceptions and passed for 87 yards—total.
In the second half, Minnesota had just four net yards of offense.
After winning 14 games last year with Darnold, the Vikings need to go .500 the rest of the way in 2025 to win half that many games. Minnesota hitched its wagon to the wrong horse.
The impact of that gaffe could resonate in the Twin Cities well beyond this season. -- Davenport
21. Atlanta Falcons (4-7)
12 of 32.jpg)
Last Week: 22
Week 12 Result: Won 24-10 vs. New Orleans
Kirk Cousins mustered enough arm to throw for 199 yards, two touchdowns and an interception, as the Atlanta Falcons snapped a five-game losing streak.
The 37-year-old signal-caller can showcase himself for the next six weeks while Michael Penix Jr. is on injured reserve.
Don't count the Cousins-led Falcons out of the NFC South division race. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have lost three consecutive games, and Baker Mayfield is dealing with a shoulder injury that sidelined him for the second half of last week's game.
If Tampa Bay continues to tumble and the Carolina Panthers struggle down the stretch, Atlanta has a slight chance at the division crown. -- Moton
20. Carolina Panthers (6-6)
13 of 32.jpg)
Last Week: 18
Week 12 Result: Lost 20-9 vs. San Francisco
Just when you think the Carolina Panthers could be legitimate playoff contenders, they shrink under the bright lights of Monday Night Football.
Coming off a career-high 448-yard passing performance, Bryce Young threw for 169 yards, a touchdown and two interceptions, both of his turnovers on the San Francisco 49ers' side of the field, one in the end zone.
The Panthers are much-improved from the previous season, and they're still in the mix to win the NFC South, but Young must find some consistency for this team to reach the next level. -- Moton
19. Dallas Cowboys (5-5-1)
14 of 32.jpg)
Last Week: 21
Week 12 Result: Won vs. Philadelphia 24-21
The Cowboys showed plenty of grit and determination by coming all the way back from a 21-point deficit and beating the rival Eagles in overtime. In doing so, Dallas tied a franchise record for the biggest comeback in team history.
More importantly, the Cowboys kept their season alive. At 5-5-1, they remain in the postseason mix. Granted, eight NFC squads already managed seven victories. But Dallas would have been done had it not found a way to win Sunday.
George Pickens has been particularly dominant during the Cowboys' two-game winning streak. The wide receiver had 18 catches for 290 yards and two touchdowns during that stretch. -- Sobleski
18. Pittsburgh Steelers (6-5)
15 of 32.jpg)
Last Week: 16
Week 11 Result: Lost vs. Chicago 31-28
The Pittsburgh Steelers played without starting quarterback Aaron Rodgers on Sunday because of a wrist injury. Things didn't feel a whole lot different with Mason Rudolph behind center, though.
Pittsburgh is better off with Rodgers at the helm, and it may have outlasted Chicago if he had been healthy enough to play. However, this is a team with a suspect defense, a non-threatening downfield passing attack and a less-than-ideal remaining schedule.
The Steelers are good enough as a team to beat remaining opponents such as the Buffalo Bills and Detroit Lions. Now they've lost their grip on the AFC North, though, the path to the playoffs looks rocky. -- Knox
17. Los Angeles Chargers (7-4)
16 of 32.jpg)
Last Week: 17
Week 12 Result: Bye Week
The Los Angeles Chargers entered the bye week with a winning record and an injury-riddled roster, raising concerns about the club. They're slotted in the teens for a reason.
In their last outing, the Chargers lost 35-6 to the Jacksonville Jaguars. In three November games, Justin Herbert has taken 13 sacks behind an offensive line with two backup tackles, one of whom the team acquired before the trade deadline.
If the Chargers don't do a better job of protecting him, the offense and this team could collapse in the second half of the season. -- Moton
16. Tampa Bay Buccaneers (6-5)
17 of 32.jpg)
Last Week: 12
Week 12 Result: Lost 34-7 vs. Los Angeles Rams
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers haven't been able to field a healthy offense this season. Left tackle Tristan Wirfs, running back Bucky Irving and wide receivers Mike Evans and Chris Godwin have all missed at least a few games. Yet they've held on to the top spot in the NFC South.
Nonetheless, on a three-game skid, with quarterback Baker Mayfield's status unclear because of an injury to his non-throwing shoulder, Tampa Bay is in a tough spot that may linger for weeks.
Teddy Bridgewater may be a capable backup with a full week of practice with the starters, but in his NFL career, he's been a low-ceiling quarterback who's more conservative than aggressive in attacking defenses. The Buccaneers' injuries could cost them games in a crucial stretch. -- Moton
15. Houston Texans (6-5)
18 of 32.jpg)
Last Week: 19
Week 12 Result: Won vs. Buffalo 23-19
The Texans' defense isn't just good. It's not just the NFL's No. 1-ranked unit. Houston fields a defense that can dictate a game, which is a rarity in today's game.
DeMeco Ryans' unit sacked Bills quarterback Josh Allen a career-high eight times. Considering the signal-caller's size, strength, athleticism and playmaking ability, few stats are more impressive.
After Thursday's win, the Texans now find themselves above .500 for the first time this season, with legitimate postseason aspirations and an outside shot at a third straight division title. -- Sobleski
14. Jacksonville Jaguars (7-4)
19 of 32.jpg)
Last Week: 15
Week 12 Result: Won vs. Arizona 27-24
The Jaguars have won three of their last four contests, and they're now nipping at the Indianapolis Colts' AFC South-leading heels. It's how Jacksonville won those contests that's so fascinating.
At the start of this stretch, the Jaguars needed a tipped two-point conversion pass attempt to defeat the Las Vegas Raiders. Jacksonville then experienced a fourth-quarter meltdown against the Houston Texans for its last loss. The Jags responded by blowing out the Los Angeles Chargers, then sneaking past the Arizona Cardinals in overtime.
The final score is all that matters, and Jacksonville is finding a way. Is this approach sustainable? Probably not. But the Jaguars have created an opportunity to snatch the AFC South from the Colts' clutches if they continue to find a way. -- Sobleski
13. San Francisco 49ers (8-4)
20 of 32.jpg)
Last Week: 13
Week 11 Result: Won vs. Carolina 20-9
The San Francisco 49ers have been repeatedly hampered by injuries, but they keep finding ways to hang around the NFC playoff race. On Monday night, they overcame a three-interception game by Brock Purdy to win fairly convincingly over the upstart Panthers.
Defensive coordinator Robert Saleh has done a masterful job of reading a very young defense this season. When Purdy, Christian McCaffrey, George Kittle and Jauan Jennings are all healthy, the offense is formidable.
With wins over the Seahawks and the Rams on their resume, the 49ers must be taken seriously. -- Knox
12. Baltimore Ravens (6-5)
21 of 32.jpg)
Last Week: 11
Week 11 Result: Won vs. New York Jets 23-10
On a positive note, the Ravens escaped Week 12 with a fairly convincing win over the Jets. They've won five straight since the bye and have taken over as the team to beat in the AFC North.
However, none of that means Baltimore is a particularly formidable team or one free of concerns. The Ravens had another sluggish start against the Jets, and Lamar Jackson continues to look like he just isn't himself.
If the Ravens fall back to .500 against the Bengals on Thursday, it's unlikely to surprise anyone. -- Knox
11. Kansas City Chiefs (6-5)
22 of 32.jpg)
Last Week: 14
Week 12 Result: Won 23-20 vs. Indianapolis (OT)
Entering Week 12, the Kansas City Chiefs were 0-5 in one-score contests. They finally turned their close-game fortunes around in an overtime win over the Indianapolis Colts. Kansas City avoided uncharted territory in the Patrick Mahomes era, a sub-.500 record post-Thanksgiving.
The Chiefs aren't back in championship form yet, though. The Colts had them on the ropes, up 11 in the fourth quarter. Credit to Kansas City for coming back in a must-win game, but it needs to sustain momentum to rank among the league's elite squads. -- Moton
10. Chicago Bears (8-3)
23 of 32.jpg)
Last Week: 10
Week 12 Result: Won vs. Pittsburgh 31-28
Well, the Bears finally beat someone—sort of.
Sunday's win over the Pittsburgh Steelers was Chicago's first against a team with a winning record. And like most of the victories over their eight wins in the last nine games, the Bears didn't exactly rack up the style points.
A win is a win, though, and at 8-3, the Bears already have as many as the last time the team made the postseason in 2020. The hiring of head coach Ben Johnson appears to have been a home run, especially for second-year quarterback Caleb Williams.
Twelve weeks in, the Bears are the Kings in the North.
With trips to Philadelphia and Green Bay next up on the schedule, they are going to get a chance to stake a claim as a real contender in the NFC. But Chicago's long-suffering fans already have to be thrilled with the progress the team has made in 2025. -- Davenport
9. Detroit Lions (7-4)
24 of 32.jpg)
Last Week: 8
Week 12 Result: Won vs. New York Giants 31-24 (OT)
The Detroit Lions didn't lose Sunday because they don't lose consecutive games—the team has peeled off 14 straight wins following a loss.
However, the postseason is a single-elimination tournament, and it's getting more difficult by the week to imagine these Lions making a deep playoff run.
The offense remains loaded. Running back Jahmyr Gibbs had approximately 912 total yards and 11 touchdowns in another stellar effort against the Giants and wideout Amon-Ra St. Brown caught nine passes for 149 yards and a score.
However, the Detroit defense gave up north of 500 total yards to a Giants team starting a third-string quarterback and short its No. 1 running back and wide receiver.
Taking care of business at home against the Packers on Thanksgiving would be a good springboard into a stretch run where just one of their last six opponents is currently under .500. That will tell us all a lot more about this team's chances of finally playing in a Super Bowl. -- Davenport
8. Buffalo Bills (7-4)
25 of 32.jpg)
Last Week: 6
Week 12 Result: Lost vs. Houston 23-19
The Buffalo Bills were expected to be among the AFC's best teams in 2025 and a legitimate Super Bowl contender. And at 7-4, they are on track to make the playoffs. The season hasn't gone according to plan, though.
Josh Allen had an outing against the Houston Texans he'd rather forget—the NFL MVP was dropped eight times, didn't throw a touchdown pass and tossed two picks. The Buffalo run defense continues to be an issue on a weekly basis, and with 2024 first-round pick Keon Coleman a healthy scratch for a second straight week, the Bills' pass-catchers are suspect.
Buffalo is two back of New England with a head-to-head loss against the Patriots, so the AFC East title is looking unlikely. And while the Bills are talented, it's getting harder by the week to imagine them making it to Santa Clara and Super Bowl LX in February. -- Davenport
7. Green Bay Packers (7-3-1)
26 of 32.jpg)
Last Week: 9
Week 12 Result: Won vs. Minnesota 23-6
The Green Bay Packers aren't an easy team to get a bead on. This is a team that boatraced the Detroit Lions at Lambeau in Week 1, only to lose to the Cleveland Clowns and Carolina Panthers in the same stadium.
Even in Sunday's win over the floundering Vikings, the Packers were weird. Quarterback Jordan Love continued to be a riddle wrapped in a puzzle wrapped in an enigma, making plays and missing open receivers in equal measure. Green Bay's best offensive weapon in Week 12 was a backup running back.
However, a Green Bay defense that has shown flashes of dominance ruled the second half, and the Packers won the first of three straight NFC North games headed into a brutal five-game stretch that is going to make or break their season, with a Thanksgiving Day tilt in Detroit kicking it off.
If you know how that's going to play out, let us know. This team could peel off four wins and vie for the NFC North crown or lose four of five and miss the postseason, and neither outcome would surprise me. -- Davenport
6. Indianapolis Colts (8-3)
27 of 32.jpg)
Last Week: 3
Week 12 Result: Lost vs. Kansas City 23-20
The Colts did themselves no favors by allowing the Chiefs to come back from 11 down in the fourth quarter and losing in overtime.
Now, the AFC South is much tighter, with Indianapolis holding a one-game lead over the Jacksonville Jaguars and two games over the Houston Texans.
Over the next two weeks, the Colts play the Texans followed by the Jaguars.
Shane Steichen's squad still controls its own fate, but the team has come up small during two of its last three games. Indianapolis' vaunted offense was slowed by the Pittsburgh Steelers and then the Chiefs.
Until the Colts start to play complementary football, concerns about losing control over the division are very real. -- Sobleski
5. Seattle Seahawks (8-3)
28 of 32.jpg)
Last Week: 7
Week 11 Result: Won vs. Tennessee 30-24
Don't let the final score fool you. The Seahawks handled the lowly Titans in Week 12, even if a Chimere Dike punt-return touchdown and a couple of garbage-time scores caused Seattle to sweat just a little.
Based on some of the finishes we've seen this season, the Seahawks deserve credit for not allowing a potential trap game to slip away.
Now 8-3, Seattle keeps showing it isn't a fluky team. It's an extremely balanced one and a legitimate NFC contender. -- Knox
4. Philadelphia Eagles (8-3)
29 of 32.jpg)
Last Week: 2
Week 12 Result: Lost vs. Dallas 24-21
Saquon Barkley is a closer. He's the caliber of running back the Eagles can lean on late in games to ensure victory. This approach didn't work Sunday against the Cowboys.
Surprisingly, with the game tied at 21 in the fourth quarter, Barkley coughed up the ball while in Dallas territory. The turnover was his first lost fumble this season.
As a team, the normally rough-and-rugged Eagles didn't fare well. As Yahoo Sports' Nate Tice noted, the Cowboys held Philadelphia to its lowest rushing success rate of the season.
When the Eagles can't control the game and make too many mistakes, they're vulnerable, even if an early lead looks insurmountable. -- Sobleski
3. Denver Broncos (9-2)
30 of 32.jpg)
Last Week: 5
Week 12 Result: Bye Week
The Denver Broncos are in a position to dethrone the Kansas City Chiefs in the AFC West after beating them 22-19 in Week 11.
In the division, Denver is two games up on the Los Angeles Chargers and four ahead of Kansas City.
The Broncos don't win with style points, ranking 17th in scoring, but they've rattled off eight consecutive wins and should be in contention for AFC home-field advantage late in December.
Denver is getting its due respect, ranking in the top five for our power rankings. -- Moton
2. New England Patriots (10-2)
31 of 32.jpg)
Last Week: 4
Week 12 Result: Won vs. Cincinnati 26-20
Good teams find ways to win. Apparently the New England Patriots are a good team—because after downing the Bengals in Week 12, they have won nine straight and hold the best record in the AFC.
Given what this team looked like a year ago, Mike Vrabel is building quite the case to be named Coach of the Year. Quarterback Drake Maye looks like a superstar in the making in only his second year in the NFL.
It's beyond premature to start comparing the Vrabel-Maye duo to that other coach and quarterback in Beantown. Barring a complete collapse, though, the Patriots are going to win the AFC East this season. The No. 1 seed in the AFC is on the table.
And while exactly zero people expected it, the Patriots are legitimate Super Bowl contenders. -- Davenport
1. Los Angeles Rams (9-2)
32 of 32.jpg)
Last Week: 1
Week 11 Result: Won vs. Tampa Bay 34-7
The Los Angeles Rams remain atop our power rankings, which should surprise no one. A week after cutting it close against the rival Seahawks, they ran roughshod over a playoff-caliber (when healthy) Buccaneers team.
Everything in L.A. appears to be clicking, both offensively and defensively. Matthew Stafford is playing arguably the best football of his career, and unless that changes, the Rams will have a chance to win every single game they're in.
That could well include Super Bowl LX. -- Knox
