Branch explained his decision on Saturday in an interview that aired on NBA TV during the Made Hoops Miami Tip-Off.
The 6'7", 190-pound Branch plays for Prolific Prep in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
Branch was the No. 1 prospect in the class of 2027 before reclassifying. He talked more with Travis Branham of 247Sports about the move.
"The decision to reclassify was as easy a one for me," Branch said. "I've thrived my entire life putting myself in environments that push me to be better, and that's exactly what I look to do in taking this next step. I believe in the work that I've put in and will continue to outwork who I was yesterday. I look forward to the challenges and growth that comes with leveling up. Now my focus is winning a championship with my Prolific Prep family!"
Branch will now be eligible for the 2027 NBA draft, per Branham. He is also now ranked 10th overall in the class of 2026, per the latest 247Sports Composite rankings.
Adam Finklestein of CBS Sports noted that Branch has a chance to keep rising up the class of 2026 ranks:
Branch isn't the only 5-star recruit who made the decision to switch from the class of 2027 to 2026 of late, as forward Baba Oladotun, ranked No. 11 on the 247Sports Composite, did the same. Oladotun committed to Maryland on Wednesday.
