D'Angelo Ponds NFL Draft 2026 Scouting Report for New York Jets CB
The New York Jets selected Indiana CB D'Angelo Ponds with the No. 50 overall pick in the 2026 NFL draft.
D'Angelo Ponds is the type of competitive, athletic and playmaking cornerback that coaches want in their secondary. He plays bigger than his size and doesn't back down to any receiver. With great footwork, feel for space and timing, Ponds continuously makes plays on the football and frustrates receivers with his closing speed and attention to detail.
The former 3-star recruit is an instinctual player and is coming off an impressive inaugural season with the Indiana Hoosiers. Now a National Champion, he had his best overall season with 61 tackles (44 solo), two interceptions, 11 passes defensed, and a forced fumble. The 5'9", 182-pound defensive back may be undersized, but he'll play with anyone and make them earn every inch.

Where He Wins
2 of 5
— Ponds plays with fantastic zone awareness in any variation thanks to his quick feet and track background. His instincts are tied to strong eye discipline and make him a formidable opponent when reading the quarterback.
— Ultra-competitive. Ponds is not afraid to mix it up with any receiver, play physical man coverage and trust his mirroring ability/athleticism to recover throughout the route.
— He recognizes route-combinations well, while maintaining proper depth and zone responsibility, passes off routes and communicates with his teammates at a high level.
— Doesn't panic with the ball in the air and plays with the mindset of a bigger corner when working downfield. He attacks the catchpoint with authority and timing to disrupt catches.
—The twitched-up athlete offers special teams upside in both return aspects. In fact, he returned a punt against the Illinois Fighting Illini for a touchdown in Week 4 of the 2025 campaign.
Areas of Improvement
3 of 5
— Ponds is undersized with shorter arms that limit his ability to play the ball against taller and longer receivers. His lack of length could impact his ball production at the next level.
— While he's a willing participant against the run, he struggles to get off blocks and wrapping up consistently is a challenge. Instead, he falls down around the ankles too often, which creates missed tackles.
— When dealing with comeback routes or hitches at full speed, he displays a slight hitch within his deceleration. This slight pause allows receivers to sell deep and break him off at the top of routes.
