Russell Wilson Talks NFL Future, Daboll Firing After Jameis Winston Named Giants' QB1
Veteran quarterback Russell Wilson discussed his NFL future after fellow passer Jameis Winston was named the New York Giants' starter under center against the Green Bay Packers on Sunday.
"I know what I'm capable of," Wilson told reporters Wednesday. "I know how great I am. I know what I've done. I know a couple games here and there, they haven't gone our way, but I'm just excited for the next opportunity to step between the white lines. That's how I've always been. I'm not going to stop swinging. And that's just what I know."

He also talked about the Giants' choice to fire head coach Brian Daboll on Monday.
"Dabs is a great coach," Wilson told reporters. "He's a good man. He's a guy that's dedicated a lot of his time here in a special way. A guy who won Coach of the Year at one point. A lot of respect for Dabs. I'm grateful he gave me the opportunity to come here"
The 36-year-old joined the Giants on a one-year contract worth $10.5 million in March.
Wilson started the first three games of the regular season for New York but struggled to stay consistent, completing 59.1 percent of his passes for 778 yards and three touchdowns compared to three interceptions.
Once the Giants opened their 2025 campaign with a record of 0-3, rookie Jaxson Dart replaced the 10-time Pro Bowler at quarterback.
Wilson made brief appearances as a reserve after the switch, finishing 4-of-9 for just 53 yards across three games.
With Dart sidelined due to a concussion, Winston has now surpassed Wilson on New York's depth chart under interim head coach Mike Kafka.
Despite Dart's promising rookie year, the Giants parted ways with Daboll after falling to 2-8. New York was also coming off a Week 10 loss to the Chicago Bears, in which it blew a 10-point lead with four minutes remaining in the fourth quarter.
Wilson's outlook with the Giants remains murky, but retirement doesn't seem to be an option that he's considering once the 2025 season comes to a close.
