G League's Abdullah Ahmed Commits to BYU over Houston for 2026-27 CBB Season
After being cleared to play college basketball by the NCAA, Abdullah Ahmed will be leaving the Westchester Knicks of the G League to join BYU for the 2026-27 season.
Ahmed told Joe Tipton of On3.com he plans to commit to the Cougars after also considering Houston.
Tipton noted Ahmed is expected to enroll in BYU for the spring semester and start playing for the basketball program next season.

The NCAA has yet to officially determine the full extent of Ahmed's eligibility, but it's expected he will receive two or three years of playing time at the college level.
Ahmed's eligibility comes in the aftermath of the NCAA ruling in September that Thierry Darlan, who spent two seasons in the G League from 2023 to '25, was eligible to play college basketball.
Darlan became the first player to receive college eligibility after playing professionally in the G League. He was originally a graduate of the NBA Academy Africa and joined the G League Ignite prior to the 2023-24 season.
London Johnson, a former G League Ignite player, also received college eligibility from the NCAA and announced in October that he was committing to Louisville.
Ahmed, a 6'10" center from Egypt, has appeared in 18 games with the Westchester Knicks since the start of the 2024-25 season. He averaged 3.8 points, 4.6 rebounds and 2.2 blocks per contest.
When he was still waiting to hear official word about his college eligibility, Ahmed was reportedly considering offers from BYU, Houston and Mississippi State.
BYU head coach Kevin Young was able to land the 22-year-old big man in another recruiting win for the school. The Cougars had a terrific 2025 recruiting class, led by No. 2 overall recruit AJ Dybantsa.
Ahmed will be the third member of BYU's 2026 recruiting class, joining Dean Rueckert and KJ Perry.
