Broncos' J.K. Dobbins Blasts 'Muther F--kin Hip-Drop Tackle' After Foot Injury

Julia StumbaughNov 7, 2025

Denver Broncos running back J.K. Dobbins is not happy with the tackle that caused him to suffer what NFL Network's Tom Pelissero reports is a foot injury during Thursday night's Week 10 win over the Las Vegas Raiders.

Dobbins called on the NFL to ban "or at least call" hip-drop tackles in a Friday post on social media.

The tackle from Raiders defensive end Tyree Wilson occurred late in the third quarter, as noted by The Athletic's Nick Kosmider.

Dobbins returned to finish out the game, which he finished having recorded 18 carries for 77 yards. He is now awaiting a second opinion on his foot injury, Pelissero reported.

The tackle came as Dobbins ran the ball two yards up the middle with 4:34 left in the third quarter. No penalty was called on the play.

The no-call came days after the NFL made the controversial decision to overturn on appeal a suspension levied on Washington Commanders linebacker Frankie Luvu following his third hip-drop tackle of the season.

Both Luvu and other Commanders players said after the incident they weren't sure what qualified as a hip-drop tackles under the NFL's definition, per The Athletic's Nicki Jhabvala.

The NFL unanimously banned the swivel hip-drop tackle ahead of the 2024 season. The league defines the tackle as taking place when a defender both "grabs the runner with one or both hands or wraps the runner with both arms" and "unweights himself by swiveling and dropping his hips and/or lower body, landing on and/or trapping the runner's leg(s) at or below the knee."

Regardless of whether the NFL updates that rule in the future, the Broncos' focus will now turn to evaluating Dobbins' health.

The running back left the field after the tackle and sat out three drives before returning for the end of the game.

He recorded two carries on the Broncos' final drive to help his team close out the Week 10 win and improve to 8-2.

The running back was limping after the game due to what he told reporters was a hip-drop tackle that should have been called, per DNVR's Zac Stevens. Dobbins said he was "good" after the game, per Stevens.

The news that he is awaiting further medical updates is alarming for a Broncos team hoping Dobbins can remain healthy this season after seeing the beginning of his NFL career derailed by a serious of knee injuries.

Dobbins currently ranks third in the NFL with 772 rushing yards through 10 games.

Should he miss any time, the Broncos would likely hand a larger workload to rookie running back RJ Harvey. Harvey stepped up during Dobbins' brief absence Thursday and ended the game having recorded six touches.

The Broncos will hope the longer break ahead of next Sunday's matchup with the visiting Kansas City Chiefs allows Dobbins enough time to recover ahead of Week 11.
