Tyler Shough's Final Box Score, Highlights from 1st NFL Start in Saints' Loss to Rams

There's a new starting quarterback in New Orleans.

The Saints turned to rookie Tyler Shough against the Los Angeles Rams after Spencer Rattler's early struggles. Head coach Kellen Moore pulled Rattler out of last week's loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, giving Shough his first significant appearance of the season. He had 128 yards and an interception in last week's loss.

Shough appeared a bit more comfortable against the Rams on Sunday, throwing for 176 yards, a touchdown and an interception on 15-of-24 passing (adding two rushing yards on one carry), but that was far from enough as the Saints fell 34-10.

Shough's first touchdown of his career came right before halftime when he found tight end Juwan Johnson, who was his teammate at Oregon in 2019.

Shough, like every rookie, still has plenty of work to do to establish himself in the NFL, but things could have gone much worse in his first career start.

Moore took some of the pressure off Shough before his first start, announcing that he will be the starting quarterback for the rest of the season. The Saints are far from a playoff contender, so allowing Shough to play without the expectation of leading a playoff team could make his first year in the NFL much easier.
