Top 2025 MLB Free Agents Rumors and Predictions on Landing Spots
The 2025 MLB season concluded on Saturday in spectacular fashion. Fans were treated to one of the greatest events in professional sports, a World Series Game 7 with extra innings.
Congratulations to the Los Angeles Dodgers, who outlasted the Toronto Blue Jays in a truly epic series.
While the postseason has ended, baseball fans won't have much of a break before the action picks up again. The offseason has arrived, and teams have only five days with which to negotiate with impending free agents before they hit the open market.
Unsurprisingly, the rumor mill is already spinning. Let's dive into some of the latest buzz and make a few predictions.
OF Kyle Tucker, Chicago Cubs
1 of 3
Chicago Chubs outfielder Kyle Tucker figures to be an early headliner of free agency. A versatile and tremendously talented 28-year-old, Tucker just finished his fourth All-Star campaign with 22 home runs, 25 stolen bases and a 4.5 WAR rating.
When Bleacher Report's Joel Reuter put together his early free-agent big board in September, Tucker was at the top.
Tucker is also likely to be at the top of the wish list of teams willing to spend big.
Jon Heyman of The New York Post recently called the Dodgers and San Francisco Giants "logical" landing spots for Tucker while noting that the Blue Jays are expected to show interest.
"They played for the biggest free agents—Shohei Ohtani and Juan Soto—and Jays sources say they still would have signed Vlad Guerrero Jr. if they'd gotten Ohtani or Soto," Heyman wrote.
It's perhaps fitting that the battle for Tucker could involve another standoff between the Dodgers and Jays. Don't be surprised if the Dodgers add another big name to their already loaded roster.
Prediction: Tucker signs a 10-year deal with the Dodgers.
SP Ranger Suárez, Philadelphia Phillies
2 of 3
Philadelphia Phillies pitcher Ranger Suárez was the No. 2 free agent on Reuter's board, and there's a good reason for that. The 30-year-old is a quality starter who is set to join a free-agent class lacking a top-tier pitcher.
This creates real problems for the Phillies. They have a few notable names headed to market, and they're expected to rebuild after a second straight exit in the NLDS.
According to Heyman, Philadelphia will make slugger Kyle Schwarber "a top priority."
Suárez, though, may be considered expendable.
"Suárez might just be the odd man out because the Phillies want to prioritize other places on the roster," The Athletic's Matt Gelb wrote.
Philly may find it hard to justify giving Suárez the sort of deal he's likely to command in this year's market. It would be a lot easier to justify for the rival New York Mets, who missed the postseason in 2025 and who need to upgrade their rotation.
Prediction: Suárez signs a six-year deal with the Mets.
3B Alex Bregman, Boston Red Sox

Third baseman Alex Bregman, the third-ranked player on Reuter's board, carries some intrigue heading into the offseason. He'll turn 32 in March, and he missed time with a quad injury this past season. He's also a proven leader who can help a team both offensively and defensively.
The three-time All-Star plans to hit the market after opting out of his contract with the Boston Red Sox.
"Though Bregman certainly enjoyed his time in Boston, he plans to see what the free-agent market has in store for him now that, unlike a year ago, there is no qualifying offer attached to him," Ian Browne of MLB.com wrote.
Bregman is likely to find plenty of suitors on the open market, and the Kansas City Royals are expected to be interested, according to Heyman. However, he hasn't ruled out a Boston return either.
According to Brown, Bregman "took great pride" in mentoring some of Boston's up-and-coming players. He may be happy to maintain that mentor role—if the Red Sox are willing to offer some financial security.
Prediction: Bregman signs a six-year deal to remain in Boston.
