Los Angeles Dodgers vs Toronto Blue Jays, 2025 World Series

Will Shohei Ohtani Be Available to Pitch for Dodgers in World Series Games 6 and 7?

Andrew PetersOct 29, 2025

After pitching six innings in a loss to the Toronto Blue Jays in Game 4 of the World Series, Shohei Ohtani could be back on the mound as early as Game 6.

Per The Athletic's Fabian Ardaya, Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said "we'll see" when asked how Ohtani could fit into the team's pitching plans in Games 6 and 7. He added that he hasn't yet discussed the plan with Ohtani.

According to Ardaya, Ohtani told Japanese media on Tuesday that he's preparing to pitch in relief in Games 6 and 7.

Ohtani was tremendous in his last start before the World Series, giving up just two hits and collecting 10 strikeouts against the Milwaukee Brewers in the NLCS. He came back to earth against the Blue Jays, allowing six hits and four earned runs, including a home run from Vladimir Guerrero Jr.

Ohtani made it to the seventh inning having allowed just one run, and he was only at 90 pitches. He soon collapsed, giving up a single to Daulton Varsho and a double by Ernie Clement, leading Roberts to pull him from the game. Toronto scored four runs in the seventh.

"I wanted to go seven," Ohtani said, per ESPN's Alden Gonzalez. "And it was regrettable that I wasn't able to finish that inning."

Ohtani likely won't get the chance to start again for the Dodgers, but he can make up for his subpar Game 4 performance if he's called upon in relief.

Until then, he'll look to do what he can on offense, which so far, has been a lot.

Ohtani has three home runs and five RBI so far in the World Series. He put together one of the best performances in World Series history in Game 3 when he went 4-for-4 with a pair of homers and three RBI and reached base safely nine times after a slew of intentional walks.

He didn't do much in Game 4, going 0-for-3 with a walk, but it won't be a surprise if he returns to form in Game 5 on Wednesday.
