There didn't seem to be much drama around the winners when the finalists were announced on Oct. 6. Cal Raleigh did pose an interesting counter to Judge in the AL because of his 60-homer season, but every other stat favored the New York Yankees star by a wide margin.
Judge led MLB in all three triple-slash categories (.331/.457/.688), becoming the first player since Miguel Cabrera in 2012 to accomplish the feat. No other player in MLB had an on-base percentage higher than .399. Ohtani was the only other player who slugged at least .600.
In addition to the traditional metrics, Judge was overwhelmingly the best offensive player in MLB during the regular season. He led the league in weighted on-base average (.463), wRC+ (204) and OPS+ (215). No other player was within 30 points of him in any of those categories.
On the NL side, Ohtani once again set the pace for offensive performance. He had a slightly different type of year than he did in 2024 because the stolen bases weren't as big a part of his game since he was back pitching, but everything else was right on part with what he did the previous two years.
Ohtani finished behind Juan Soto in on-base percentage (.396 to .392) and Kyle Schwarber in homers (56 to 55), but led the NL with a .622 slugging percentage and .418 weighted on-base average.
Since the Hank Aaron Award was introduced in 1999, Alex Rodriguez has won it more than anyone else (four times). Judge and Ohtani have now won it three times, tying Barry Bonds for the second-most ever.
