Aaron Rodgers Retiring Questioned by Rapoport as Steelers 'Really Enjoy' QB's Run

Doric SamOct 26, 2025

Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Aaron Rodgers previously indicated that the 2025 season could be his last, but it sounds like the team is more than open to having him stick around for another year.

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reported that the Steelers have gained an affinity for Rodgers, so it doesn't seem guaranteed that he will retire at the end of the season.

"In my understanding, the Steelers have really, really enjoyed the Aaron Rodgers experience," Rapoport said. "Coaches, executives, players, he has bonded with several young players in the locker room. I would not be surprised, based on how he is and how he's playing, if they want him back for another year despite just signing him to a one-year deal. And until Rodgers says for sure, for sure that he is retiring after this year, we will continue to wonder."

At 41 years old, Rodgers has proven that he still has what it takes to be an effective starter in the NFL. He's helped lead the Steelers to a 4-2 start for first place in the AFC North, throwing for 1,270 yards, 14 touchdowns and five interceptions.

Rodgers touched on retirement earlier this week while discussing Sunday night's game against the Green Bay Packers, with whom he spent the first 18 seasons of his career before being traded in 2023. Per ESPN's Rob Demovsky, the four-time NFL MVP said he's "pretty sure" the 2025 season will be his last, and he hopes to retire as a member of the Packers.

"I was there for 18 years," Rodgers said. "Regardless of when I hang it up, that's the bulk of my career. I'll retire a Packer and see what happens after that. I've got a lot of love for the organization [and] my time there. They asked this week is it a revenge game or whatever. What do I got to be avenging here? They made me a ton of money. I grew up there, spent some of the best years of my life there. I've got nothing but love for the organization."

However, if Rodgers keeps up his strong play for the Steelers this season, the Packers could have to wait at least one more year before he finally hangs up his jersey for good.
