Alvin Kamara Says He Will 'Go Drink a Pina Colada Somewhere' If He's Traded By Saints
Alvin Kamara seemed to suggest Thursday that he would consider retirement if the New Orleans Saints trade him ahead of this season's deadline, with rumors previously linking him with a potential departure.
"[General manager Mickey Loomis and I] talked about [the trade rumors] and we were looking at each other like the little Spider-Man meme, like, 'Did you say something? Did I say something?' I don't know where that came from," the veteran running back told reporters. "But I don't want to go anywhere and I've said it countless times. Y'all know that, I think everybody knows that, the fan base knows that. At the end of the day, it's a business. I don't go upstairs, I don't have an office upstairs... so I don't really sit in those meetings, I don't know what happens up there. I've just got to keep my head down. If I was a GM, I guess I would go to the player and say, 'Hey, we're trading you, just so you know.' So if Mickey comes down and says that, I'm going to go drink a piña colada somewhere."
Nobody could blame Kamara if he asked for a trade at this point in his career. The 1-5 Saints are clearly in a rebuilding mode, and the chances of the 30-year-old running back winning a title if he remains in New Orleans for the remainder of his career are pretty slim.
Kamara is under contract through the 2026 season and is set to have an $11.5 million base salary next season ($3 million of that is fully guaranteed) and an $18.6 million cap hit. Releasing him before the 2026 season would still incur $18.2 million in dead cap.
He remains the team's top option in the backfield, though his 2025 production has been modest—314 rushing yards, 22 catches for 122 yards and just one total touchdown through six games.
The five-time Pro Bowler has always been a dual-threat as both a runner and receiver, though he did set a career high in rushing yards last season (950). He's not on pace to match that output.
He's also not interested in playing elsewhere, with NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reporting on Oct. 11 that Kamara told Loomis he wanted to finish his career in New Orleans. Thursday's comments confirmed as much, and while the Saints might still end up being sellers, it won't be Kamara heading out the door.
