Backstage WWE and AEW Rumors on Seth Rollins, CM Punk and More

Erik BeastonOct 16, 2025

Seth Rollins' name is on the lips of all wrestling fans right now as rumors run rampant about his status after an apparent injury suffered at Crown Jewel and the abrupt dissolution of The Vision the following Monday's WWE Raw.

The latest update on the world heavyweight champion and his original plans for WrestleMania 42 headline this collection of insider reports, which also looks at plans for Saturday Night's Main Event, an update on the return of Rey Mysterio, and what is going on with Andrade and All Elite Wrestling.

Original Plans for Seth Rollins at WrestleMania

1 of 4
WWE Crown Jewel

Dave Meltzer reported on Wrestling Observer Radio that Seth Rollins was originally slated to square off with Roman Reigns at WrestleMania.

That comes on the heels of another report from Meltzer that The Visionary is expected to undergo shoulder surgery and miss "several months."

There is no update on what that means for Rollins' reign as world heavyweight champion or any immediate plans for the title's future.

Fans have waited for a one-on-one matchup between The Visionary and Reigns since their encounter at the 2022 Royal Rumble, where Rollins goaded The Tribal Chief into losing his cool and getting disqualified.

They last faced each other at this year's WrestleMania Night 1 main event in a Triple Threat match that also featured CM Punk.

Rollins and Reigns have been linked since their days as part of The Shield, but they have yet to do battle against each other, without any other outside forces, in a singles match on the grandest stage.

It would have been a monumental showdown between two of the top stars of this generation and one that would have attracted significant excitement.

It remains to be seen if Rollins will be back in time for The Showcase of the Immortals and what the plans will be for him if he doesn't face Reigns.

We do know what was on the immediate docket for the world champion, though, thanks to another Meltzer report.

CM Punk's Saturday Night's Main Event Plans

Monday Night RAW

CM Punk defeated Jey Uso and LA Knight on Monday's Raw to earn a shot at the World Heavyweight Championship.

Meltzer reported The Best in the World was slated to challenge Rollins for the top prize on Raw at Saturday Night's Main Event on November 1.

Punk vs. Rollins is a high-profile match that would have been right at home on a prime-time television special.

The Second City Saint remains on the marketing materials for the event and will likely have a significant role at the show, regardless of whether he gets his world title shot there or elsewhere.

If WWE sees fit, it could book Punk against another star to determine the new champion if Rollins is forced to give up the world title due to injury.

Regardless of the direction it takes, WWE will find a way to keep Punk in a prominent position on the card.

Rey Mysterio Return Update

Fanatics Fest NYC 2025

Mike Johnson of PWInsider.com reported Rey Mysterio is expected to be at the WWE Performance Center this week to begin training for his comeback.

The WWE Hall of Famer was scheduled to battle El Grande Americano at WrestleMania 41 but sustained a groin injury on the SmackDown before the show and has been out of action since.

Mysterio is an all-time great and his popularity and star power are an asset to any WWE event, so it makes sense that the company would love to have him back sooner rather than later, perhaps to set up a WrestleMania 42 program.

At the very least, his return would help boost the AAA promotion.

Whether he rekindles that rivalry with Americano remains to be seen, but Mysterio is one of the greatest to lace a pair of boots and his return will be met with excitement among fans and officials alike.

What is Going on With Andrade?

4 of 4
WWE Archive

Andrade recently made history by becoming the first wrestler to leave All Elite Wrestling, go back to WWE and then return to AEW following what Johnson and PWInsider.com reported was a firing due to multiple wellness policy violations.

The 35-year-old has since disappeared from programming, with no real indication of where he is or why he is missing.

However, Bryan Alvarez of F4WOnline.com reported: "Regarding Andrade, all I know is that he's not injured, and something is holding him up regarding his non-compete with WWE."

It was originally believed El Idolo did not have a no-compete clause, hence his immediate debut for AEW upon his release.

There has been no further update, so it remains to be seen when Andrade will be back on AEW television, but expect him to have a significant role in the Don Callis Family storyline when he does, as hinted at by his first appearance back with the promotion.
