A switch-hitting second baseman, Alomar played 15 seasons in the majors from 1964 to 1978. He had stints with the Milwaukee/Atlanta Braves, New York Mets, Chicago White Sox, California Angels, New York Yankees and Texas Rangers, earning an All-Star selection with the Angels in 1970 and a trip to the World Series with the Yankees in 1976.

Following his retirement from his playing career, Alomar managed minor league teams as well as teams in his homeland of Puerto Rico, and he coached in MLB with the San Diego Padres, Chicago Cubs, Colorado Rockies and Mets from 1986 to 2009.

After Alomar hung up his cleats, his sons picked up where he left off and reached even greater heights. He was coaching with the Padres when they both made their MLB debuts in 1988.

Sandy Jr. was a six-time All-Star catcher, a Gold Glove winner and the 1990 American League Rookie of the Year. He was inducted into the Guardians Hall of Fame for his contributions to the franchise both as a player and a coach.

Roberto was a two-time World Series champion second baseman with the Toronto Blue Jays in 1992 and 1993. He was the 1992 ALCS MVP and a 10-time Gold Glove winner, and he earned 12 straight All-Star selections from 1990 to 2001. He was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame as part of the class of 2011.
