NFL Exec Says Garrett Wilson, Sauce 'Haven't Won S--t,' Questions Jets Contracts
After falling to 0-6 with Sunday's loss to the Denver Broncos in London, the New York Jets are having a hard time silencing their critics.
The Athletic's Mike Sando spoke to an NFL executive who questioned whether the Jets' offseason contract extensions for star receiver Garrett Wilson and Sauce Gardner make sense amid the team's ongoing rebuild.
"They haven't won s--t with these guys, and they have already given them top-of-market deals early," the exec said. "I get it if you get a good deal, but why are bad teams giving good players top-of-the-market deals? That is a recipe for disaster."

Rookie WRs Who Will Outplay Their Draft Value 📈
Gardner was made the highest-paid cornerback in NFL history with an average annual salary of $30.1 million. Wilson's average salary of $32.5 million makes him the fifth-highest-paid receiver in the league. Unfortunately, neither of them has been able to help the Jets become a winning franchise.
Since Gardner and Wilson arrived to New York as first-round picks in the 2022 draft, the team has gone just 19-38, including this year's disappointing start under first-year head coach Aaron Glenn. Sando noted that the "best-case scenario" regarding the big paydays for the team's homegrown stars is that they "bought goodwill with those players as Glenn seeks buy-in to implement his program."
Both Wilson and Gardner have remained steadfast in their commitment to the Jets, but the perpetual losing could eventually wear on them and lead them to force their way out of New York.
The Jets will try to earn their first win of the season when they meet the Carolina Panthers in Week 7.
