Jets' Glenn Says Justin Fields 'Took a Step Back' in Broncos Loss, Won't Bench QB

Doric SamOct 13, 2025

Despite another poor performance by quarterback Justin Fields in Sunday's 13-11 loss to the Denver Broncos, New York Jets head coach Aaron Glenn made it clear that he isn't considering a change.

On Monday, Glenn made it clear there wouldn't be a quarterback change, though he did acknowledge that Fields "took a step back":

Those comments come after he downplayed a reporter's question on Sunday.

When asked if Fields would be benched for veteran backup quarterback Tyrod Taylor next week, Glenn dismissed the question, saying, "Come on, man, what kind of question is that?"

"There are guys who have bad games. That doesn't mean you just bench him, you know better than that," Glenn added.

Fields completed just nine of his 17 passes for 45 yards in Sunday's loss. He sustained a whopping nine sacks for 55 yards, giving the team a franchise-worst negative-10 net passing yards. Even when the offense had short fields thanks to returns on special teams or the defense's first turnover of the season, Fields and company failed to capitalize and didn't reach the end zone for the entire game. New York remains the only winless team in the league this season at 0-6.

The Jets signed Fields to a two-year, $40 million deal this past offseason. He had shown signs of improvement during his six starts for the Pittsburgh Steelers in 2024, but he has regressed in New York, experiencing many of the struggles that plagued him throughout the early part of his career.

Taylor saw some action in two games this season after Fields suffered a concussion in Week 2 against the Buffalo Bills. In his start against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, he threw for 197 yards, two touchdowns and an interception while sustaining four sacks in a 29-27 loss that ended on a last-second field goal.

It's not clear where the Jets will be able to find answers as they try to end their run of bad luck, but it's up to Glenn to put the team in the best position to win. New York will be facing the Carolina Panthers (2-3) in Week 7.
