Jaxson Dart's Concussion Evaluation Under NFL Review After Giants' Win vs. Eagles

Mike ChiariOct 10, 2025

The New York Giants' handling of rookie quarterback Jaxson Dart's concussion evaluation during Thursday night's 34-17 win over the Philadelphia Eagles is currently under review by the NFL.

According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, the league announced that it will jointly review the application of the concussion protocol to Dart with the NFL Players Association.

Per ESPN's Jeremy Fowler, it is possible both Daboll and the Giants organization as a whole could face league discipline depending on the results of the investigation.

Giants president and CEO John Mara released a statement on the matter, saying Daboll "understands that the appearance of going to the tent is inappropriate" and that the franchise will "fully cooperate" with the league's investigation.

During the third quarter of Thursday's game, Dart went into the blue injury tent to be evaluated for a concussion.

On the broadcast, Daboll was shown poking his head inside the tent and yelling at a team doctor.

Speaking to reporters after the game, Daboll expressed remorse for his actions, saying:

"If you've ever been on an NFL sideline, there's a lot of emotions. There's a lot of emotions. And I certainly am an emotional guy. I apologized directly to our team physician. I just wanted his ass out there if he was OK. But I wanted the process—like, we were getting ready to go for it on a potential fourth down. I would have burned a timeout if he could have came out there. So I was asking how long is it gonna take?

"So, again, you want your guy out there, not at risk of anything else. But, you know, he came out. 'I think he's gonna be good.' I'm like, 'Is he gonna be good or not? I'm gonna call a timeout on fourth down and go for this son of a b---h.' You know what I mean? So, I love our doctors. ... I apologize. I was in the wrong."

Veteran backup Russell Wilson came in for two plays while Dart was getting evaluated, and the drive ended with a Giants punt.

After forcing an Eagles three-and-out on the subsequent drive, Dart returned for the Giants' next offensive drive. While that also ended with a punt, he later helped the Giants get an insurance score with 9:41 left in the fourth quarter, as rookie running back Cam Skattebo rushed for his third score of the game.

The Giants started the season 0-3 with Wilson at quarterback, but they have now won two of Dart's three starts, and they are finally looking like a team with a bright future.

On Thursday, Dart went 17-of-25 for 195 yards, one touchdown and no interceptions, and he also rushed for 58 yards and a score.

During the Prime Video broadcast, it was stated that Dart is only the third quarterback in the Super Bowl era to rush for at least 50 yards in each of his first three career starts, joining Lamar Jackson of the Baltimore Ravens and Jalen Hurts of the Philadelphia Eagles.

Dart clearly still has plenty of growing left to do, but he has largely limited mistakes and given the New York offense a dynamic dimension it has lacked over the past few years.

That may not necessarily lead to a playoff berth this season, but the Giants are looking like a team to be reckoned with in the future, making it even more important to preserve Dart's long-term health.
