JJ Redick's Lakers Contract Reportedly Worth $45M After 2-Year Extension
The details of Los Angeles Lakers head coach JJ Redick's recent contract extension have reportedly been revealed.
According to ESPN's Shams Charania, Los Angeles handed Redick a two-year extension that brought his overall contract value to $45 million. He's now signed through the 2029-30 season.
Lakers general manager Rob Pelinka announced Thursday that Redick received an extension heading into the team's 2025-26 campaign.
"We think he's a special coach with a special voice that's really helping us define the culture of Lakers excellence," Pelinka explained, per ESPN's Dave McMenamin. "We just wanted to make a clear statement that this is what we believe in, what we're going to lean into and what our players are going to mold into as we continue to develop the identity. I think having long-term planning is helpful as we build this team and go forward."
Redick played in the NBA for 15 years from 2006-21, becoming an analyst for ESPN following his retirement before he was hired by the Lakers in June 2024. It was a risky move, as he hadn't served as a head coach in college or the NBA prior to joining Los Angeles.
The decision paid off, as the Lakers finished with a 50-32 record in their first year under Redick. They secured a playoff spot before falling to the Minnesota Timberwolves in five games during a first-round series.
Redick did an admirable job of managing a roster that underwent significant turnover prior to the trade deadline, headlined by Los Angeles sending out Anthony Davis in order to acquire Luka Dončić in a blockbuster swap with the Dallas Mavericks.
Now, the Lakers are looking to go on a deeper postseason run in Redick's second year as a member of the organization with a new supporting cast surrounding Dončić and LeBron James that includes Deandre Ayton, Marcus Smart and Jake LaRavia.
