Stars' Jamie Benn to Have Surgery for Collapsed Lung, Expected to Make Full Recovery

Benn suffered the injury in Tuesday's 3-2 preseason win over the Minnesota Wild. He will be reevaluated in four weeks and should make a full recovery.

The situation is more serious than coach Glen Gulutzan initially let on. He described Benn's injury as a "little upper-body thing."
Instead, the 36-year-old will miss the first few weeks of the 2025-26 season at a minimum. Upon evaluating him in four weeks, doctors may determine more recovery time is necessary.
Benn is entering his 17th year with the Stars, who selected him in the fifth round of the 2007 entry draft. He continued to be an effective member of the forward line in 2024-25, finishing with 16 goals and 33 assists in 80 appearances.
In addition to his performance on the ice, the three-time All-Star remained durable in recent seasons. He didn't miss a game from 2021-24 and appeared in 43 playoff contests during that span.
Gulutzan will now have to find an alternative to operate on the left wing alongside Matt Duchene and Tyler Seguin.
