Updated 2025 MLB Playoff Bracket, Standings As Blue Jays, Guardians Clinch Divisions

Paul KasabianSep 28, 2025

The 2025 MLB postseason bracket is officially set.

Entering Sunday, there were a few items left to figure out, including the winners of the AL East and AL Central.

The Toronto Blue Jays entered Sunday needing a win over the Tampa Bay Rays or a loss by the New York Yankees against the Baltimore Orioles to take the East. The Yanks won 3-2, but the Jays crushed the Rays, 13-4.

*Denotes clinched playoff spot

Toronto went worst to first after finishing last in 2024, clinching the American League East.

The Blue Jays bottomed outed last season with a 74-88 record, landing in the AL East basement. This season has been an entirely different story, symbolizing the incredible resolve, skill and depth of this year's squad.

Toronto even clinched the No. 1 spot in the AL playoffs. This marks the first time Toronto had the best record in the postseason since 1993.

The Blue Jays now await the winner of the New York Yankees vs. Boston Red Sox AL Wild Card Series. The Yankees made a hard late-season charge and even tied the Blue Jays with three games left. Both teams won their final three regular season games from there, but Toronto won the head-to-head tiebreaker (8-5) with the Yankees to clinch the division.

Full credit goes to Toronto for an amazing regular season. Now the Blue Jays will hope to win their first World Series since 1993.

As for Cleveland, the Guardians completed one of the best runs to the postseason in baseball history. Cleveland was 40-48 after a 10-game losing streak earlier this year. They later enjoyed a 23-9 stretch but then lost nine of 10. However, Cleveland got hot again, going 17-2 over a 19-game September stretch.

The Guardians were once down 15.5 games in the division to the Detroit Tigers, who looked like they were going to waltz to the playoffs. However, the Tigers, who were once 59-34, went 26-39 over their next 65 games. That included an eight-game losing streak, with five defeats to the Guardians.

Ultimately, the Guardians clinched the division on Saturday with a bases-loaded, walk-off hit-by-pitch against the Texas Rangers. Simply put, what seemed impossible in the dog days of summer became reality, and now the Guardians are in the playoffs.

They'll be seeing the Tigers again for the Wild Card Series, hosting their division rivals for a best-of-three matchup beginning Tuesday.
