Aziz Olajuwon, Son of NBA Legend Hakeem, Commits to Stanford over Houston, More

Julia StumbaughSep 20, 2025

Four-star forward Aziz Olajuwon, son of Hall of Famer Hakeem Olajuwon, told The Athletic's Tobias Bass on Saturday that he has committed to Stanford as a member of the class of 2026.

Olajuwon chose the Cardinal over his other final choices of Houston, Cincinnati and Vanderbilt.

Listed at 6-foot-7 and 210 pounds out of Bradenton, Florida, Olajuwon is ranked as the No. 64 prospect by 247Sports composite ratings.

Olajuwon is the 10th-highest rated recruit in Stanford history, per Bass. He recently transferred to IMG Academy in Florida for his senior season.

247Sports scouting director Adam Finkelstein described Olajuwon in July as "a big wing who can defend and make threes" in addition to rebounding.

Finkelstein described Olajuwon as having "pretty naturally quick reactions and good hands" on defense, while being a "disciplined" shooter on offense.

Olajuwon averaged 14.5 points, 6.0 rebounds and 1.7 assists while making 1.4 steals and 0.7 blocks but committing 1.7 turnovers per game in the Nike EYBL circuit this summer, per Finkelstein and Bass.

Finkelstein also noted that Olajuwon shot 40 percent from deep and 49 percent on open catch-and-shoot threes in EYBL.

Olajuwon was additionally invited to NBA Top 100 Camp in June, during which he averaged 7.2 points and 2.4 assists.

Second-year head coach Kyle Smith is hoping Olajuwon could become a "potential day-one starter" during his freshman season, Bass reported Saturday.

The Cardinal went 21-14 in Smith's first season, marking the program's highest win total in a decade and earning an 11-9 conference record in its ACC debut.

Stanford will now look to build on that by adding a player who can help the team on its long-range rooting. The Cardinal ranked 167th in DI men's basketball last season with a team three-point rate of 34.2 percent, according to the NCAA.

The Cardinal already secured a commitment from another four-star Class of 2026 prospect in Isaiah Rogers, who committed to Stanford in July. Rogers is listed as the nation's No. 131 prospect in 247Sports composite rankings.

The Cardinal will now wait to see if any other top prospects are swayed by Olajuwon's commitment.

Maxime Meyer, another four-star who listed Stanford among his final choices earlier this month, is set to play alongside Olajuwon at IMG Academy during the upcoming high school season.
