Jonathan Kuminga's Agent Admits 'There's a Good Chance' Warriors Trade Him by Deadline
Aaron Turner, the agent for Jonathan Kuminga, isn't ruling out the possibility that the 22-year-old forward could be traded by the Golden State Warriors during the 2025-26 NBA season.
Appearing on 95.7 The Game's Steiny & Guru show (starts at 10:30 mark), Turner acknowledged "there's a good chance" that Kuminga gets moved prior to the in-season trade deadline.
Turner's comment come amid the ongoing standoff between Kuminga, a restricted free agent, and the Warriors about a new contract.
Per a Sept. 15 report from ESPN's Anthony Slater and Shams Charania, the Warriors recently upped their offer to three years and $75.2 million with a team option for the final year.
Their previous offer was for $45 million over two years with a team option for the second year. Slater and Charania noted the Warriors also want Kuminga to waive the "inherent no-trade clause" in both offers.
Turner explained on The Hoop Collective podcast with Slater and Brian Windhorst that Kuminga would sign either offer the Warriors made if they would change the team option to a player option.
Since Kuminga wouldn't have control over which team the Warriors might trade him to, the player option would give him the ability to test unrestricted free agency sooner if that landing spot isn't the right fit for him and his skill set.
There's still the matter of when and which contract Kuminga is going to sign. Turner said his client would be willing to accept the $7.9 million qualifying offer in part because it would allow him to become an unrestricted free agent next summer.
"There's a lot of upside," Turner said. "He wants to pick where he wants to go. So the QO is real for sure."
Kuminga, the No. 7 pick in the 2021 draft, will turn 23 on Oct. 6. He had an inconsistent 2024-25 season, averaging 15.3 points on 45.4 percent shooting and 4.6 rebounds per game in 47 appearances.
