Yankees Trade Marshall Toole to Rays as PTBNL in Jose Caballero Deal at MLB Deadline
The New York Yankees traded outfield prospect Marshall Toole to the Tampa Bay Rays as the player to be named later in the deal headlined by José Caballero joining New York, the team announced Wednesday.
The Rays also acquired outfielder Everson Pereira in exchange for Caballero during the prior swap between both teams, which occurred just before the July 31 deadline.
New York selected Toole with a 15th-round pick in the 2024 MLB draft, adding him with the No. 451 overall choice.

Yankees Call Up Spencer Jones
The 22-year-old suited up in 96 games with Single-A Tampa this season, slashing .305/.406/.479 despite recording just five home runs. Toole has also amassed 14 doubles, 13 triples, 44 stolen bases and 48 RBI.
While Toole showed promise in Triple-A action, the Yankees determined that he was worth parting ways with in order to acquire Caballero.
The move has paid off so far, with the 29-year-old helping New York both offensively and defensively. Caballero has repeatedly stepped in as the Yankees' starting shortstop while looking sharp at the plate.
He's posted an impressive .848 OPS with New York, recording 17 hits in 74 plate appearances. Caballero also leads the majors with 47 combined steals with the Yankees and Rays this season, with 13 stolen bases coming in 33 games on his new team.
New York has also started stringing together wins after struggling prior to the deadline, owning a 25-18 record since July 31.
The Yankees currently sit at No. 2 in the American League East standings with an overall record of 84-67, owning the top AL Wild Card spot.
