Kyle Schwarber Reportedly Expected to Sign New Phillies Contract in MLB Free Agency
Even though the immediate focus for the Philadelphia Phillies is on trying to win a World Series this season, one thing they apparently don't have to worry about is losing Kyle Schwarber in free agency.
Per The Athletic's Ken Rosenthal, the "expectation" is that Schwarber and the Phillies will agree to a new deal in the offseason.
Schwarber, who is in the final season of a four-year, $79 million contract signed in March 2022, is having an incredible walk year. He leads the NL with 53 homers and leads MLB with 128 RBI.

Despite the success for Schwarber at the plate in 2025, his market seemed like it could be uncertain given his age and being limited to playing DH. He will turn 33 on March 5.
For example, last offseason saw Pete Alonso have to settle for a two-year, $54 million deal to return to the New York Mets with the second season being a player option.
Alonso didn't play as well in 2024 as Schwarber is this season, but he hit at least 34 homers in each of his five full seasons (excluding the 60-game season in 2020) and had just finished his age-29 season.
From 2022 to '24, Alonso's OPS+ of 130 was slightly higher than Schwarber's (128). Schwarber has been the superior player this season, but there's also the risk of paying him coming off a career year.
Rosenthal noted a four-year deal worth at least $30 million per season "seems realistic" for Schwarber and the Phillies.
Most of Philadelphia's key players are already locked into contracts for next season. Ranger Suárez and J.T. Realmuto are the most prominent free agents on the team after Schwarber.
Given that the Phillies still project to have a nucleus capable of competing for a title in 2026, retaining Schwarber should be a priority for Dave Dombrowski and the front office.
