Dennis Schroder, Germany Earn EuroBasket 2025 Gold Medal with Win vs. Sengun, Turkiye
Dennis Schröder and Germany took down Alperen Şengün and Türkiye by the final score of 88-83 in the EuroBasket 2025 championship game on Sunday.
With Germany trailing by one point and just over one minute remaining in the fourth quarter, Schröder connected on a layup to give his team the lead. He went on to extend Germany's advantage with a pull-up jumper on his squad's next possession.
The victory gave Germany its first EuroBasket title since 1993.
Schröder finished with 16 points and a game-high 12 assists, shooting 5-of-11 from the field and 1-of-3 from three-point territory. He also grabbed three rebounds.
The 31-year-old was named EuroBasket MVP.
As for Şengün, he scored 28 points on 11-of-22 shooting. He pulled down three rebounds and dished out three assists as well, but also committed three turnovers.
Sunday's matchup was a back-and-forth affair as it featured 15 lead changes, with neither team leading by more than six points after the first quarter.
Türkiye owned a 46-40 edge at halftime, but Germany quickly responded by opening the third quarter on a 10-3 run to jump back in front. Both teams continued to battle heading into the final period, with Germany eventually closing out the victory due to Schröder's late heroics.
He was far from the only contributor in the win, though.
Isaac Bonga recorded 20 points and shot 8-of-11 from the field for Germany, while Franz Wagner chipped in with 18 points and eight rebounds to go along with a pair of assists.
Cedi Osman provided assistance to Şengün with 23 points of his own, but no other member of Türkiye's lineup finished with more than 13 points.
Three-point shooting proved to be the difference in the game, with Germany connecting on 54 percent of its triples while Türkiye shot 36 percent from behind the arc.
