Tyreek Hill Trade Reportedly Isn't Eyed by Chiefs as Dolphins Have No Plans to Deal WR

Adam WellsSep 13, 2025

A potential reunion between Tyreek Hill and the Kansas City Chiefs isn't on the table at this point for a couple of reasons.

Per The Athletic's Dianna Russini, the Chiefs are focused on getting Xavier Worthy back from injury and Rashee Rice back from suspension before thinking about adding a wide receiver.

Russini also noted the Miami Dolphins "don't have any plans right now" to trade the eight-time Pro Bowler.

ESPN's Adam Schefter later reported on Saturday that "the Dolphins have not fielded any trade inquiries on Hill, who is in the second year of a restructured three-year, $90 million contract. The Dolphins already exercised Hill's $15.85 million option bonus for this season, leaving a $10 million base salary and $1.8 million in per-game bonuses."

Worthy is officially listed as doubtful for Sunday's game against the Philadelphia Eagles due to a shoulder injury. He suffered the injury after colliding with teammate Travis Kelce on crossing route in the first quarter against the Los Angeles Chargers in Week 1.

Head coach Andy Reid has said that Worthy doesn't need surgery to repair the injury, nor will he need to be placed on injured reserve.

Rice is serving a six-game suspension for violating the NFL's personal conduct policy. He will be eligible to return for the Chiefs' Week 7 game against the Las Vegas Raiders.

The operative phrase Russini used from the Dolphins' perspective is "right now" because the trade deadline isn't until Nov. 5.

Based on how poorly Miami played in Week 1 against the Indianapolis Colts, the front office could reach a point where it wants to start looking ahead to 2026 and beyond by trading veterans on expensive contracts for future draft assets if things keep going in this direction.

Even if the Chiefs wanted to acquire Hill, they would have to do some serious financial maneuvering to make it happen. They only have $2.7 million in cap space, the third-lowest in the league.

Hill has a $27.7 million cap hit this season. It's also not clear if he's still worth that level of financial investment based on his recent performance. His 959 receiving yards and 11.8 yards per reception last season were his lowest totals since his rookie year in 2016.

There are also new legal allegations against Hill that came out this week. TMZ Sports reported on Monday that Hill's estranged wife, Keeta Vaccaro, alleged eight separate incidents of domestic violence over the course of their 17-month marriage in a court filing as part of her divorce case against him.

The NFL confirmed to CBS Sports' Jonathan Jones that it is investigating the allegations against Hill.

Hill's attorney, Julius B. Collins, has denied the allegations against his client in a statement.

It was a surprise that Hill remained with the Dolphins entering this season. He told reporters after their final game of the 2024 season he was "out" and had to "do what's best for my career, because I'm too much of a competitor to be just out there."

Tua Tagovailoa addressed his relationship with Hill prior to the start of the season, saying they were "in a good spot" and rumors of any past tension between them may have been "blown out of proportion."

The Dolphins opened this season with a 33-8 loss to the Colts. The 25-point margin of defeat was the team's largest since a 56-19 loss to the Baltimore Ravens in Week 17 of the 2023 season.
