Dolphins' Tua Tagovailoa Says Tyreek Hill Relationship in 'Good Spot' Ahead of Week 1

Scott PolacekSep 3, 2025

Any lingering tension between Tua Tagovailoa and Tyreek Hill seems to be a thing of the past, at least according to the Miami Dolphins quarterback's latest comments.

"I think people might've blown it out of proportion," he told reporters Wednesday. "I mean, we've worked on it, and I think that conversation is dead now. I think once people see Tyreek score on Sunday, everyone will forget about that. So, we're in a good spot and we've been in a good spot for some time as well, so I'm really happy with that."

The relationship was a major storyline this offseason after Hill told reporters at the end of last season (2:25 mark), "I'm out. It was great playing here, but at the end of the day, I gotta do what's best for my career, because I'm too much of a competitor to be just out there."

While Hill publicly apologized to the quarterback and the team, Tagovailoa told reporters in July the receiver would have to work to regain the trust of his teammates.

"It's not just with me, it's with a lot of the guys. I'm not the only one that heard that. You guys aren't the only people that heard that," he said. "A lot of people that follow football, that follow the Miami Dolphins, that follow Tyreek that are fans of his—everyone has seen that. So, when you say something like that, you don't just come back from that with, 'Hey, my bad.' You got to work that relationship up; you've got to build everything back up again.

"He's working on himself; he's working on the things that he says he wants to get better with and do better on. So that's the first step to me, and so I commend him for doing that."

Yet the latest comments seem to suggest some of that work was done, and Hill also said everything is good.

"At the end of the day, me and Tua know exactly where we stand at," he told reporters. "He knows and I know that we both have a brother for the rest of our life. We going to continue to build each and every day. ... Brothers fight all the time. I fight with my brothers, we go at it all the time—but at the end of the day, we know what the main goal is. We still a family."

That is welcome news for the Dolphins, as both the receiver and quarterback will need to be at their best if the team is going to bounce back from last season's 8-9 effort.

Tagovailoa missed six games in 2024, while Hill failed to reach 1,000 receiving yards for the first time since 2019. It was a far cry from when he led the NFL in both receiving yards (1,799) and touchdown catches (13) in 2023.

It remains to be seen if they are better on the field in 2025, but they seem to have repaired any concerns about their relationship off it.
