Xavier Worthy Participates in Chiefs Practice on Video amid Shoulder Injury Rehab

Andrew PetersSep 11, 2025

The Kansas City Chiefs could have a key wide receiver back in the fold this week after he missed most of the team's season opener.

Second-year receiver Xavier Worthy was back at practice on Thursday and appeared healthy while running through drills with the team.

Worthy suffered a dislocated shoulder during the Chiefs' opening drive against the Los Angeles Chargers on Friday after colliding with tight end Travis Kelce. Kansas City went on to lose 27-21.

On Monday, Chiefs head coach Andy Reid said Worthy was considered to be day-to-day.

"I know Xavier is the big question. He's rehabbing and working his shoulder," Reid told reporters. "We'll just see where it goes, day-by-day here. We'll see where we end up."

Reid added on Wednesday that Worthy was not currently considering undergoing surgery on his right shoulder.

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport noted that Worthy being day-to-day is "an indication that the plan is to rehab and attempt to play with a brace — rather than immediate surgery."

Worthy, a first-round pick by the Chiefs in 2024, had a decent rookie year with 638 yards and six touchdowns on 59 receptions plus 104 yards and three touchdowns on the ground. The speedy wide receiver is hoping to have a breakout year in 2025, and getting back on the field quickly would go a long way.

As Worthy works his way back to possibly playing this week, the Chiefs are also hoping another receiver will be on the field. Rookie Jalen Royals, a fourth-round pick, missed Week 1 because of knee tendinitis. His status is still up in the air for this week, but he did not practice on Thursday.

Kansas City will face the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday in a game that quarterback Patrick Mahomes said will take the Chiefs "best" to win."
