Phillies Reportedly Want to Trade Nick Castellanos, Willing to Eat Portion of Contract
The Philadelphia Phillies are reportedly ready to move on from one of their veteran outfielders this offseason.
Bob Nightengale of USA Today reported that the Phillies "shopped" right fielder Nick Castellanos last offseason and "will be much more aggressive trying to move him this winter, even eating a significant portion of his remaining $20 million salary."
Castellanos will be entering the final season of a five-year, $100 million deal in 2026. He's been a solid source of production for Philadelphia over the past few years and is hitting .252 with 16 home runs and 62 RBI this season, but he hasn't been very effective lately.

Castellanos hit just .180 in the month of August. He saw his playing time gradually decrease due to his struggles both at the plate and in the outfield.
The 33-year-old could be a contributor in the right situation, but perhaps it would be best for both sides to cut ties this offseason.
The Phillies (83-60) will open a four-game set against the NL East rival New York Mets (76-67) on Monday.
