Scott Hanson Clarifies How NFL RedZone Commercials Will Work During 2025 Season
While NFL RedZone can no longer lay claim to being commercial-free, host Scott Hanson clarified that the presence of ads will be minimal.
Hanson said Saturday the commercials will account for 60 total seconds (four ads at 15 seconds apiece) and run concurrently with the RedZone broadcast. He added that this wasn't implemented as a direct result of ESPN purchasing NFL media asset including RedZone:
Hanson confirmed earlier this week on The Pat McAfee Show that one of RedZone's defining features was falling by the wayside. He had to tweak his introduction for Sunday to account for the addition of commercials:
Fan reaction to that announcement was swift, and plenty tied the news to the recent deal between ESPN and the NFL.
A league spokesperson indicated this was in the works well before that.
"The team and league work very hard to find a balance that supports the show's partners and fans," they said, per The Athletic's Amos Morale III and Richard Deitsch. "This move has been contemplated and tested for over a year now, and is completely unrelated to the recent news regarding ESPN and the NFL. The NFL will continue to own and operate NFL RedZone should that deal be finalized."
The ads unquestionably represent a change for RedZone. In the grand scheme of things, 60 seconds of commercials probably won't be a major intrusion in the overall offering.
