Garrett Wilson Says He Hasn't Talked to Aaron Rodgers Since QB Was Released by Jets

Julia StumbaughSep 4, 2025

New York Jets wide receiver Garrett Wilson says he hasn't spoken to Aaron Rodgers since his former quarterback was released by the Jets on March 12.

"I ain't talked to Aaron since he left," Wilson said Thursday when asked about his relationship with Rodgers (h/t SNY). "So, I wish him the best this season, but we ain't chopped it up since he left."

Rodgers signed with the Pittsburgh Steelers in June. He is set to start against his former team when the Steelers open the 2025 season Sunday against the Jets.

Wilson expressed public dissatisfaction with his usage in the Jets' offense last season, particularly when his target share dipped following the team's trade for Rodgers' friend and former Green Bay Packers teammate, Davante Adams.

When asked on Thursday about the 2024 season, however, Wilson spoke positively about what he learned from the 17 games he played with Rodgers last season.

"I got the opportunity to play with a living legend in this game," Wilson said (h/t SNY). "For me, every day I got to learn something. I tried to go about it the right way, and always make sure I was being a sponge. And, man, I can't even— it's hard to put into words exactly what I took away from those experiences, sitting next to him and hearing how he talks about ball. I learned a lot.

"As far as the way things went, that's the game we play. When you put together a roster, a team, you've got to go out and play on Sundays, and when it came to Sundays we didn't play our best football, and that's what it was. But we have another opportunity to make right on that, starting on Sunday. And that's the exciting thing for everyone in this locker room that was here these last two years."

For the first time in two years, the Jets will not be planning to build their offense around Rodgers after signing Justin Fields in March.

Fields, who spent last season with the Steelers before losing his starting job to current New York Giants quarterback Russell Wilson, previously played with Wilson at Ohio State.

The Jets will hope that connection can help Fields lead his new team to victory over Rodgers and the Steelers when the 2025 season kicks off Sunday at 1 p.m. ET at MetLife Stadium.
