Padres' Jason Adam Has Ruptured Quad Tendon After Being Carted Off with Injury
San Diego Padres reliever Jason Adam was diagnosed with a ruptured quad tendon after being carted off the field in the seventh inning of Monday's 4-3 loss to the Baltimore Orioles, manager Mike Shildt told reporters Monday night.
Adam's left knee appeared to collapse underneath him while he was trying to make a play on an infield single from Orioles shortstop Gunnar Henderson in the seventh inning.

Adam, acquired from the Tampa Bay Rays at the 2024 trade deadline, earned the first All-Star nod of his career this season. He had recorded a 1.81 ERA through 64 innings and 64.2 innings pitched heading into Monday's game.
He has been one of the Padres' most reliable relievers over the last two seasons, leading the San Diego bullpen with a 1.58 ERA over that span, per FanGraphs.
It now seems likely the Padres bullpen will be without him for the rest of the 2025 season.
Adam told reporters Monday night that he was would undergo an MRI on Tuesday to confirm his injury but was expecting to be sidelined for between six to nine months, per Marty Caswell of The Sporting Tribune.
The injury news is brutal for Adam when considering both his stellar season and his past injury history.
Adam overcame a series of injuries early in his career, including a stress fracture in his elbow in 2015 that led to four surgeries in a two-and-a-half year span, he recently told the San Diego Union-Tribune's Annie Heilbrunn.
He still worked his way back to make his MLB debut in 2018. Adam also underwent surgery on a dislocated left ankle while playing with the Chicago Cubs organization in 2021.
Adam's last trip to the IL came in 2023, when he was playing for the Rays.
The Padres have bullpen depth in addition to Adam, with three All-Stars remaining on the roster in Adrian Morejon and Robert Suarez in addition to trade deadline acquisition Mason Miller.
But especially given the recent struggles by Dylan Cease, the age of Yu Darvish and Michael King's placement on the IL, the Padres' plan has clearly been to lean on their bullpen during the upcoming postseason.
Helping Cease bounce back could be key to San Diego's hopes of contending while potentially missing Adam this fall.
