Saquon Barkley No. 1 in NFL Network Top 100 Players of 2025, Lamar Jackson No. 2

Andrew PetersSep 1, 2025

Saquon Barkley will begin the 2025 season with the title of the NFL's top player.

NFL Network revealed the top 10 players on this year's NFL Top 100, a list voted on by players, on Monday.

Barkley takes the top spot from Miami Dolphins wide receiver Tyreek Hill, who was voted No. 1 a season ago before dropping to No. 47 this year following a bit of a down season.

It's not much of a surprise to see Barkley earn the top spot on this year's list after the year he had. He had one of the best seasons by a running back in recent memory last year, posting 2,005 rushing yards (100 away from tying the single-season rushing yards record) and 13 touchdowns on his way to a Super Bowl and an Offensive Player of the Year award.

Jackson made a strong case for No. 1 as well, picking up 4,172 passing yards and 41 touchdowns, adding 915 rushing yards and four touchdowns on the ground.

Josh Allen is coming off his first MVP season, throwing for 3,731 yards, 28 touchdowns and just six interceptions, adding 531 yards and 12 touchdowns on the ground. Unfortunately for Allen, he and the Buffalo Bills still came short of reaching the Super Bowl, losing to the Kansas City Chiefs in the AFC Championship.

Cincinnati Bengals star Ja'Marr Chase established himself as the best receiver in the league last year when he recorded 127 receptions for 1,708 yards and 17 touchdowns to win the triple crown, but Minnesota Vikings' Justin Jefferson will be looking to take that crown from him this year.

Patrick Mahomes had a down year by his standards last season, collecting 3,928 yards, 26 touchdowns and 11 interceptions, but he still did enough to lead the Chiefs to another Super Bowl appearance. While Mahomes struggled a bit last year, he's done enough to establish himself as a perennial top-10 player.

Derrick Henry was ranked 49th on last year's list, and he clearly took the personal. In his first year with the Baltimore Ravens, he rushed for 1,921 yards and an NFL-best 16 touchdowns.

Denver Broncos cornerback Patrick Surtain II also took home some hardware in 2024, winning his first Defensive Player of the Year award after picking up 45 tackles, 11 pass breakups and four touchdowns, anchoring one of the best defenses in the league.

While being named the top player in the NFL is certainly an accomplishment for Barkley, it also means he'll have a target on his back heading into the season. The recognition comes with plenty of pressure, and he'll look to avoid letting the pressure faze him too much.
